3 home wins would be handy.

I suppose I look at it as who is getting to 80 points? you've got the top 2, then: Grimsby - almost certainly Dover - probably Tranmere -unlikely, would need all 4 wins Wrexham -unlikely, would need all 5 wins which potentially leaves one of us and Braintree! 5th would do nicely, thank you.

I waited till I'd had a night's sleep to see if I felt any better about yesterday. I don't.
I wish I could put my figure on the problem, But I can't. The last 8 games have seen 5 wins, 2 draws and 1 loss. That isn't bad. So why do I feel so low? I guess it's because I know that this side can play so much better. In the last two home games we certainly seem to have lost our way. The players look like they've lost their collective confidence and the joy of playing which was so obvious before Christmas has disappeared.
On the other hand, I don't think it's fair to blame individual players. Posting that "Y is useless" or that "Z can't hit the side of a barn" doesn't help in my view.
After nearly 60 years of watching football I know one thing that will help - a win at Grimsby.

They were in the Wessex league then. Usually coming about 8th-10th, with an average crowd of around 90. Go back another 15 years when the newly named Eastleigh were Hampshire League, gates were as low as 23 on a Saturday !!! Top gate would be for the annual visit of Southampton "A" which attracted crowds of up to 150.

Every club must have its Jonah - and I am prepared to admit that in the past it might have been me - I moved around the country a lot over the years and usually followed my local club, but they never had a lot of luck in the long run.
Malden Town (folded) Wimbledon (lost ground and identity) Workington (lost league status) Luton Town (lost league status) Aldershot Town (lost league status)
Then I turned the corner -
Kings Langley FC (3 promotions) Eastleigh FC (3 promotions)

My first game would have been at Malden Town FC of the Surrey Senior League (Now Combined Counties) in 1957 with my Grandad. Recall watching Chertsey Town, Addlestone and Camberley but can't remember which was the first.
First game I ever went to on my own was 1960 Wimbledon v Bromley at Plough Lane - took the Trolleybus to Wimbledon Town Hall and walked from there. (for younger readers a trolleybus was a bus that couldn't get lost) It was firework night and the game finished under floodlights -which most NL grounds didn't have in those days. Magic.

Re the HSC final - Sattsy said - "This game IS NOT Portsmouth V Southampton! But the Police will pretend it is, so that they can claim lots of overtime & expenses no doubt."
Pompey are not playing that night. I suspect that that police have "intelligence" about certain persons from the PO postcode planning to cause some naughtiness at St Marys. Seems an overreaction if no threat has been identified.

Last 6 league games - form table (Thanks to the New Fishy Forum) makes interesting reading. Barrow (ignore them) top with 14 points Then we are tied on 13 points with Douvres, Wrexham and Grimsby (2nd =) Tranmere on 12 points (6th) Braintree on 11 points (7th)..... Cheltenham and FGR tied on 7 points (=11th) All to play for. BTW, bottom of the form guide on 1 point is Woking, (1 draw and 5 defeats)

Pretty much a perfect day COYS As close to perfect as we could wish for at this stage in the season. Especially with Grimsby, Braintree and Dover all losing. Only Tranmere, of our play-off rivals, won. I hope the outbreak of yellow cards won't prove to be a problem later on.

Dover 2-0 down. We've got to hang on to this lead.
