"The Times" also ran the story on its back page and inside sports page 78 on Saturday.

"Would like to keep most of them but a lot depends on the clubs status (poss part time/semi professional) and wage constraints."
There's the $64,000 question. I can't see that a full-time, national, high-salary league is likely to be viable. Clubs at EFC's level are going to have to live without sponsorship deals; non-football income is likely to be a fraction of what was achievable in previous seasons.
There's a lot of serious suggestions that L1 and L2 will go regional, and if they do, so will all NL football, too. The new model will have to be like EFC 10 years ago, without the Directors/Owners putting in large sums. A long away trip will be to Eastbourne, Bognor or Whitehawk. No more high paid players either.
That's if the virus goes away, if it doesn't we won't have any football.

"might as well declare next season null and void now then cos you aren't gonna play a season in 18 weeks or so."
Likely that as many as half of the clubs in the three National Leagues and Step 3 will fold. Without gate income and with social events cancelled for another 6+ months plus the loss of sponsorship only the strong will still be there for 21/22.

Excellent full page article in NLP today from Mr Doswell - I've just picked up on some of his main messages.
On wages- "Its going to be like a tsunami coming in non-League football and in League One and Two. Thousands of players are going to be released from L1, L2 & National league clubs. They are going to be desperate to get a club."
"My honest opinion is that clubs will hardly be able to pay any wages. The days of non-league players earning £700 to £900 a week and L1/2 players earning £1500-£2000 a week are finished. You are looking at less than half those figure".
"Club chairmen have seen their main business' shut down. Sponsorship deals will be the first thing to go...and at our level we depend on it".
Doswell sees greater regionalism as one answer. Make L1/2 and the National League structure a set of regional leagues. Reduce travel costs to clubs and fans - more local derbies which will attract better attendances.

Kenny did a good piece on BBC "South Today" yesterday talking about the wider problems that this virus is causing the club beyond games being called off. It's hitting our non-football income too. There have been a number of recent cancellations of bookings for the bar/restaurant suite in the last couple of weeks. EFC has never been able to live in the National Leagues on gate money alone, but loss of income in both the football and non-football columns must be a worry.

A 9am pitch inspection and the dreadful weather forecast has seen Saturday's game called off this morning.

That was one of the bad things about getting knocked out the Trophy. Pretty much killed the season. OK there are still points to play for and we could come 9th or 19th, but barring something very strange indeed we will be in this league next season. I agree about the Trophy. There's a £77,000 prize pot for just getting to the final. Once we were knocked out of the FA Cup - where we made a six-figure sum - the Trophy could have been another money spinner for us with so many of the National League Clubs going out in the early rounds.

Both BBC and Live Scores are showing one team relegation from League Two and 4 teams relegated from the National League.
The 4 teams presently in the relegation zone in the NL have significantly the worst goal differences in the division by a country mile - minus 28; -21; -13 and -15. Only Fylde have any games in hand.
Our form over the last 5 games is the worst of the five teams above the drop-zone but we are still seven points clear with a vastly superior goal difference.

Soton Havant game on 18th Feb - no idea when semifinal will be arranged. The other semifinal, Moneyfields vs AFC Bournemouth is being played on 25 February.
BTW, Saints are putting out their Under-23 Academy side in the HSC this season. They normally play in the "Premier League 2".

First we were the little ex-Hampshire League club, then we're the rich man's play thing, now we get next to no support but continue to make up 4-figure attendance figures. Wish they'd make their minds up.
Could it be that little old Eastleigh has finished above Woking EVERY SEASON since and including 2014/15 !!!!

There seems to have been a lot of confusion about this story. The local police have issued this statement in the last hour - "Police investigating a serious assault in Retford town centre in the early hours of this morning have moved to address misleading reports circulating on social media and in the press that 25-year old Jordan Sinnott, a footballer with Matlock Town Football Club, had passed away following the incident. Nottinghamshire Police first attended the Dominie Cross public house in Grove Street, Retford following a report of a group of up to eight men and women having been involved in a disturbance in the pub car park just after 11.25pm on Friday 24 January. Officers were later called to assist ambulance crews who were attempting to treat Mr Sinnott after he was found unconscious with a suspected fractured skull following a subsequent incident at around 2am in the town’s Market Place. He remains in hospital where he is continuing to be treated for life-threatening injuries."
Let's hope that this is correct.

"I cannot contemplate relegation, its just not in the Eastleigh history book."
As Eastleigh FC (since 1980) we've NEVER been relegated. The last time was as "Swaythling Athletic" in 1963/4 when we finished rock bottom of Hampshire League, Div One winning only 3 league games all season.
