The new season EDS (u19) squad kick off their friendlies tonight with a trip to Alresford, from the Wessex League, 7.45ko. This will be an all new squad so will be very intersting to see what we have for this season. Saw the new No 1 in action for Baffins against Winchester City last night and he certainly looks a big strong dominant keeper.
Last year the EDS won this fixture 4-1 with three goals coming from Lyle Simpson, the Alresford manager, Danny Ackland, has certainly done some impressive rebuilding in those intervening 12 months and I personally think they will be a strong Wessex outfit this year. All in all, should be a good run out for both sides.

Is that the same Danny Ackland who ran our Res 2004ish? Romped the Wessex Combination from memory, James Stokoe Mark Lilley up top

Yep, I mentioned him just in case anyone recognised the name. Went on to manage BAT but then a lot of youth coaching work with a couple of professional sides. Second season at Alresford, good connections with the universities and now has a good young side, also a loan arrangement with Basingstoke. Trouble is Alresford is the worst supported side in the Wessex Prem or 1 so a difficult place to build any sort of powerbase.

Game finished 1-1. Looks like squad is about 50/50 with newbies as opposed to last year U18s. Alresford dominated first half and took the lead through a penalty, given for hand ball on the goal line. Luckily ref, realising the game was a friendlies, just issued a yellow card. Despite Alresford dominating the ball for the initial 45 it was their keeper who pulled off 4 stunning saves, including a penalty kick, as the EDS looked dangerous on the break.
EThe equaliser came in the first minute of the second half from Kaya Tshaka, who bundled the ball home after the Alresford keeper had again blocked two initial efforts. From then on EDS were in the ascendancy but, funnily enough, never created as much as they had been doing on the break in the opening half.
Noticed that amongst the newbies were lads that had been at Plymouth and Southampton, not sure about the others but the club normally give us a very decent run down of the lads making up the EDS when things have bedded down a bit.
This Saturday they visit Pagham, who have just been moved from the Southern Combination top division to the Wessex Premier. I have seen them a couple of times recently and they are a big strong side so should be a very tough test. I also see there are a couple of midweek afternoon friendlies coming up.

Second game saw a late Kai Mellor equaliser earn a 1-1 draw at, new Wessex League Prem side, Pagham. Having seen Pagham recently I know they are a very big, strong side that will be well up in the top half of the Wessex this year so a draw from the young side must be seen as very positive.
This was achieved without two of the best of the new intake who both did well for the first team against Brighton u23s on Saturday.
Next game is away to Swindon Town Under 18s on Tuesday (26th). There is also an away game with, Isthmian League, Whitehawk on 30th. Home games follow on Thurs 4th August against Chippenham Town Res 1pm then Thurs 18th Team Volta also 1pm.
I assume there may be others fitted around these dates prior to the start of the National League Under 19 Youth Alliance season.

EDS won 3-1 this morning against Swindon Town u18s. Interesting to see Kaya Tshaka and Oscar Rutherford not involved so assume they are likely to be on the bench tonight for the first team against Southampton B.

Have the EDS side that made the final in Worcester evaporated into nothing, did we not sign any others on than the 3/4 we already had?

As far as I know the only signings were Brendan Wilson, Sunny and Lyle Simpson. I know Lyle has a season long loan to Bashley and I have seen Brendan play a couple of friendlies for Gosport but do not know if he will end up on loan there.
This is what I have noticed from the rest of that squad so far. Keepers Nick Harvey working at Wycombe Wanderers, Adam Lewingray Blackfield and Langley, Drew Ecott-Young Hamworthy. Defenders Cade Dyer AFC Stoneham, Taylor Edwards Brockenhurst, Josh Nace Petersfield, Jack Dacombe Brockenhurst, Jamie-Jay Burgess Shaftsbury Midfield Rhys Taylor Hamworthy, Isaacs Ebejer Alresford, Jack Mann Sholing. Forwards Jaden Medcraft Brockenhurst, Cameron Munn Hamworthy.
Not sure Euan Haylor, Alfie Toland, Spencer Marchant. Sorry to those I have missed out.

Following up from the above I have listed the players I have seen in EDS so far this pre-season (22/23). Not sure if 100% accurate but also tried to list where I think the newbies were last season.
From our U18s last season Thomas Grusewski, Lewis Mees (gk), Kai Mellor, George Pomeroy, Brad Smith, Adam Voler, Dylan Walker, Yumo Wan, George Kirby, Jimmy Munford.
Newbies Owen Palmer (AFC Bmuff?), Josh Malpass Hamworthy, Harvey Stock Wimborne, Kaya Tshake Southampton, Oscar Rutherford Plymouth Argyle, Roux Hardcastle Fleet Town, Angello Harris Horndean, Issac Evans AFC Stoneham, Tommy Whitby Woking.
As I said earlier apologies for anyone I have missed or listed incorrectly club wise.
I know that when things bed down the club normally give us a detailed look at each player.
Results to start off with have been very promising.

With regard the newbies, it is Evan Harris instead of his cousin Angelo. In addition another player from Horndean and ex Pompey academy is Zac Brownlie. Thanks, is Angelo with one of the other Eastleigh age groups? I saw Zac Browl8e play for Baffins Milton last week, just not seen him turn out for the EDS yet but I know he is dual signed with BMR.

After two draws with Wessex Prem sides and a win at Swindon Academy I think todays 2-2 draw at Isthmian South Premier side tops the lot with the hosts playing a very strong line up. After falling behind, an own goal equalised. Kaya Kshaka, who has come on in last 3 first team games, then stole the ball off a defender and put the EDS 2-1 up before a 70th minute leveller from the hosts.

Next game is due Thursday with a home friendly against Chippenham Town. It's a 1pm kick-off but do not know if venue is Stoneham Complex or the Silverlake.
Will update when I see any further details.
