Very disappointing night. Never really looked like winning this tie. Not sure Hill got it right at all. The greatest opportunity this club has ever had wasted. Agreed. Utterly utterly underwhelmed by the complete lack of effort, drive, desire etc. Apart from our great goal their 'keeper never made ONE save. Every cross Eastleigh put in was won by a Newport head. Constantly giving the ball away too. Do I put it down to Newport being a good side? No not really. My view is that Eastleigh just didn't try.

I thought Newport played well, solid defensively and quick to mount an attack.
We were OK in patches, the difference seemed to be that their moves involved several passes and ours didn't - the long ball was used more by us than in other games recently.
All their goals were preventable.
I think some players had good games (Francillette, McCallum, for example) and others didn't. Newport's players produced more consistent performances.
Fair result - the cup run is over. It will be very hard to get the players up for the Oldham game, which is a very important game if we are to keep our playoff hopes alive.
However, today, the difference between a solid League 2 side and our team was there for all to see. We put the effort in (nobody could be accused on not trying in a game of that importance, with Man U awaiting the winner), but they were simply the better team on the night. I thought the ref was excellent.
Logistics: Shop entrance seemed to be closed off? Car park entrance seemed chaotic tonight. Walking back by the church was ridiculous - inadequate lighting as well as unsafe. When are they going to finish the work? Not a lot of space between home and away fans.
Assume the 5075 attendance ia a ground record, it's 50 more than Bolton was.

Oscar showed more in 9 minutes than some of the rest of the team all season. Why Hill doesn't give him more game time is beyond me.

Sadly the head ruled the heart :-(
Started poorly and was relieved that we kept it at 0-1 and grew into the game. Unfortunately the goal didn’t really change the game & we were fairly beaten by a side about us in the pyramid.
It’s been a great FA cup campaign, Reading & Newport away will live long in the memory and a record ever crowd tonight. The fairytale didn’t happen, but they’ll be others, different great days for our club.
Pessimistic/realistic hat on, Saturday is an away banker. Let’s hope the club can pull something out and get a result. 19 games to go this season. Let’s hope we can do something with them.

They seemed to just do the simple things better than us. We need a better left wing back in the Greener/Tomlinson/Harper mould and more go forward in midfield. Great cup run overall and some great memories.

Almost had to do a double take when he announced Rutherford was coming on. Didn’t seem like he had been warming up and was just thrown on. Although his touch looked a little off, probably due to getting so little game time, I agree he looked like the player we would see every game last season, tearing up the wing and causing the opposition problems. Probably won’t even get onto the bench for Saturday!!

My frustration lies with the fact that I cannot seem to understand that a team that played so well in the second half at Newport with ten men could play so utterly rubbish tonight.

We need a decent right back, Panter should have stayed on, why does RH persist with Clements, l can see how he can`t get into the Chesterfield side. I have to add to the rest of the comments about Rutherford who l haven`t seen in months, but why wait until the 84 minute to bring him on? Enzio should be on the right side of midfield in a 4-4-2 formation, and Taylor? what does he bring to the team ?

Don’t think Clemment’s brings anything to the team but gets 90mins every week. Thought Clampin looked okay when he came on

No disgrace in losing tonight. As with the majority of cup shocks involving non league sides, it happens in the first game. Newport showed that cutting edge between the two teams. Newport scoring as early as they did, meant that we were always chasing the game. Had Newport not scored they would have had a penalty, as they should have had prior to the corner for handball leading up to their second goal. The third goal was frustrating to watch. Going up and down the touch line before a quick inside pass and then drilling in at the near post. Set up to defensively tonight. To many square passes throughout the night, allowing Newport to get back in numbers. The double substitution seem to weaken the formation of the team. Definitely missed Langston in the last couple of games. So the march to the arch ends for another season , but fond memories have been created. Onto Oldham on Saturday.

Comments seem very harsh. Thought we competed all night but they had players that were more comfortable on the ball than we had, as you would expect with a middling League Two side. We hoped for another upset but two of those we normally rely on McGuire and Quigley were not at their best. McCallum had a far better game than at Rodney Parade but no one fed off the amount of ball he won.
Don't understand the chaotic comments, personally I thought the organisation from the club was really good. We had a record crowd to deal with. Car parking was handled well, out on the road was going to be difficult hence reason we got there hour fifteen before ko. The road between the lights was closed off for 15 mins after game so people had full width to walk down. All in all I thought it was a well organised, very enjoyable night to be part of. Wanted a win but realise cup upsets are, in truth, few and far between.

From the BBC report - this has to hurt:
In terms of the game itself, can only agree with much of what has been said above. I thought that despite the early setback we were bright in the first half and created some nice moves, especially down the right flank with Boldewijn being our main threat. Great equaliser from Macca and from there it looked like it was game on, but we just never showed any control or threat from that point on. Too often resorting to long balls up the field and speculative crosses to no one in particular (Maguire's dead ball woes continuing) and simply giving the ball back to the opposition far too often. Defensively we were at fault for all three goals, and against a higher level team you simply can't afford that. Quigley and Clements may as well have not been on the pitch, individually everyone else did okay but we just didn't get it going as a team. Rutherford looked lively but out of touch - please give this guy a proper run in the team (starting Saturday) as we're so devoid of pace and invention other than what Enzio/Maguire can offer.
Overall, hugely disappointing given what was at stake, but credit to the lads for getting this far, and let's remember the three games against Reading and Newport as the great occasions they were - we'd have certainly taken that at the start of the campaign.
