This problem stems from the former ground staff team not being properly supervised/managed & being allowed to make things up as they went along with no care about the standard of the pitch. We knew we had problems prior to the D & R game, but it appears only remedial work has been done since, scratching at the surface of the problem. I would suggest the current ground staff team have not been given proper advice/tools to enable them to correct the situation. It'll be interesting to learn what emergency work will be done from Monday but only time will tell if it's enough. FA Cup in 2 weeks aside, we have 3 weeks till the next home game. Can that corner be sorted by then?

Words fail me, although most of the previous comments probably provide most of the words I'm looking for 😞 - problem is, i didn't check radio or social media before leaving for ground - soon became obvious as I got there & everyone else walking glum faced in the wrong direction !

I had a conversation with Richard Hill about this at about 2.00. He was unhappy about the postponement, as he felt we had a good chance of 3 more points after a great win last week. He made the point, that we would gain nothing by the postponement. No one currently inured would be fit for the game at Boreham Wood Tuesday, and we now have 3 successive away games. A referee was called yesterday who thought the pitch playable in RH opinion it was still playable today. The one problem area, is the same as we have mentioned previously, on the far right as you look at it from the club house end. RH said to the referee that he should look at the pitch the same as he would do if it were in March, in Richards opinion, the FA are becoming too fussy and this did not need to be called off.
Looking at the pitch from a distance it looked absolutely fine. The club are very aware of the problem and are doing their level best to sort it out. Everyone at Eastleigh is happy to explain the problem and what we are trying to do to resolve it. I would suggest that those fans who are upset by this postponement (and understandably so), might benefit from chatting to somewhat at the club.

I rarely comment on the goings on at the club but feel I need to on this occasion.
The playing surface at Eastleigh has never been that good. In my opinion it never recovered from the FA cup game against Bolton BUT that area of the pitch although never good always drained away and didn't really retain water. I cannot remember a game being called off at Eastleigh so early in the season. This problem came about very soon after the new surface was laid so my thoughts are that the contractors who laid it have obviously got something very wrong. I really don't think we can point the finger at the current ground staff even though they are the easy target. Perhaps SD needs to look at getting the contractors back first thing Monday morning to sort this area of the pitch out.

I don’t know about the ins and outs of the pitch, but the way this was handled was very poor. Frankly I was embarrassed walking through town in my eastleigh sweatshirt this afternoon. The tone of the statement was so arrogant, without a single nod to the away supporters. Poor show Eastleigh, we are better than this and are fast becoming a laughing stock in this league.

I do agree, I don't think the statement puts the club in a good light.

The jewellery rattlers will be fed up that they're gonna have to wait a while for their next quaff in the cosy corner. Us mortals had to stay in Eastleigh town centre drinking!!

No the jewellery rattlers were all fed and watered as were some of the players and management.

As a relatively new supporter who decided to invest in a very small amount of shares in the club I'm hoping the naff bit isn't the bit I own. What annoyed me most was having travelled to the ground with 2 prospective new STHs was being informed at the gate that it was my fault I turned up because i hadn't checked facebook. I hadn't realised that being a fan of EFC involved being a smart phone owner--if it is could that be supplied with my season ticket for next year please?

I think Twitter's the one to check, stew5018 - I can't see it on Facebook yet! Chester unsurprisingly not happy about it either - some good points made here (and it's already happened to them this season): audioboom.com/posts/6349858-ceo-mark-maguire-speaks-following-eastleigh-postponementHope their fans who turned up were treated well by Eastleigh.... The Hampshire League rep game at Hamble Club was a perfectly acceptable alternative - played on a very good pitch.

Not that fussed as couldn't make it today so not missed a game on my season ticket.
What worries me is that the most fun I've had at the ground this season was the carvery I had on Sunday!

Thanks hantslondoner for the Chester soundbite. Very eloquent and pertinent comment from them except where he says "standing here in the Eastleigh sunshine". That might render him an unreliable witness but never mind. Footballwise we can hopefully now realise that we have been fortunate to have Richard Hill's commitment to the cause and his passion for our club. No matter other stellar reputations, I think we might now realise that at our level we won't find another manager with the nous and wherewithal to get us up to the next level. On the commercial and general management side we are lucky to have those people who have set new standards. We have good people taking care of operations - we are hosting between 3 and 4 times our crowd sizes of a few years ago almost seamlessly. The one thing I fear the club (ie Stewart) might want to think about is giving responsibility for an acceptable playing surface to top management - and I suppose that means Mark Jewell. He can appoint and delegate accordingly and that accountability would give him the chance to recruit the pitch expertise needed. Perhaps with that under his control Mark would make sure to eliminate the horrible financial cost of, and damage to our reputation from, pitch related cancellations. Apologies for these opinions. It is fair to say how it is easy to suggest how Stewart should spend his money and I am sure there are far better ideas out there. We are all complaining about today but does anyone else have any constructive thoughts?

I am tired of the 'happy clappy' brigade defending the club. The club hierarchy need a kick up the ass. Must do better.

I hope you won't mind me asking as well if you could make any suggestions about how to do better ( ref your comment 'must do better'). We are all pulling in the same direction hopefully.
