according to Twitter.
Words fail me if it's because of the pitch again - but I did wonder - we've had a bit of rain this week! Don't suppose anything else will be off, though. I'm off to watch the Hampshire League Inter-league match at Hamble instead.

The Twitter message looks to have been approx 12.45, with a comment that more information would follow. 25 mins ago and still nothing. Words fail me too.

BBC says waterlogged pitch. At least they know about it!
As do Chester - their players and some of their fans are already here.

What rain? ?? If the pitch is the reason then questions need Answering , the chairman must be fuming, as am I, it's laughable . If it's not the pitch then obviously something serious. Very confused

Over an hour since the Twitter announcement & still no statement from the club. I stand by my words of 12th August:-
So it looks like the drainage there was done by a load of cowboys, rather than a small team who knew what they were doing and who who do it properly. This is very worrying for the rest of the winter. We have a 2 week window between Tranmere & Fylde, I think. It needs to be sorted quickly otherwise that area is going to be unplayable once winter rains come.
So what's going to happen when we get some proper rain in the winter? Very worrying for the future & a great embarrassment to the club.

Agree with many of the comments above. Had a number of new people lined up to come along today. Assume those that run the catering etc will lose out big time. Feel for the Chester fans who I think had their first game at Solihull cancelled too. Hill must be fuming too, having just got a win under the player's belts. What is clear is that: 1) this is not a new problem - there was the issue just before the Dagenham game 2) The rain has not been particularily prolonged or heavy in the last two weeks - they have been playing cricket at the Ageas bowl! 3) Without being addressed this will only get worse when the real bad weather arrives 4) Clearly the current ground staff do not know what to do - have we been covering the pitch? Checking it regularly? We've come along way as a club but I have to say it feels like we've completely botched this. If there is a fundamental fault we must have know this all along so could have asked for an earlier inspection. Rant over but not a happy spitfire.

We are turning into a laughing stock but its no joke.
Instead of vanity projects, restaurants, new stands and £50,000 for cutlery and crockery, those who run EFC should think what a football club needs first, second and third. The only priority is a facility on which we can play week in and week out. It's only September for fudge sake and we are calling a game off 90 minutes before kick off because of the state of the pitch after a week of average rain.
Someone needs to get a grip!!!

Why has the pitch problem not been resolved after the preseason debacle? Why was the game called off so late today? Its disgraceful. I had two friends travelling a distance to watch Eastleigh today for the first time. Whoever is responsible for not resolving this pitch issue should be sacked.

Club statement below see - www.eastleighfc.com/eastleigh-v-chester-statement/"Following a pitch inspection from today’s match officials, our game against Chester has been postponed. It is with regret this decision has been made so close to kick off however, every care had been taken in advance of the game to prevent this from happening. A match official was called in on Friday afternoon to view the pitch and following this inspection it was deemed safe to play. This information was relayed to today’s referee Mr Savvas Yianni on Friday afternoon. Upon arriving at the ground today, the match officials have taken the view that player safety was at risk and decided to postpone the game. Ground staff had covered the small affected area over night to protect the surface from any rainfall which was forecast. However, the problem with this area of the pitch is not a surface water issue but a sub-soil drainage problem. Additional drainage has been installed in the affected area over the past week. This issue is being addressed immediately and emergency work will commence Monday. Fans who have purchased tickets in advance are entitled to a full refund and this will be available from the club shop. Should fans wish to keep their tickets, these will be okay to use for the re-arranged game or for another league game of your choice. The club will make no further comment on this issue." It does appear as though they did know there was a problem yesterday However, clearly the call from whoever inspected yesterday was wrong. But why were emergency works only carried out last week - we knew it was a problem over a month ago.

If the Chief Executive is responsible for the day to day running of the club he has a lot to answer for. No excuse for this failure today.

I have a further comment - Pull your fingers out or we'll be playing 2 divisions below the National League next season.

I dont like to critisise the club in any way but , on this occation i feel the need to do so . Why was it left so late in the day when we had all made arrangements? Why is the pitch still a problem after spending vasts amount of money on it ? I didnt think i would ever say this but, im losing interest in Eastleigh football club .
