I like Mandron but for someone that's a striker he just seems too scared to actually shoot, maybe it's a confidence thing, maybe Ronnie could give beano another go?

For all the chances Beano actually has had, it's criminal if Bird isn't given another

I was not at yesterday's game, but it is interesting to note that I remember Southport and Chester (before their reformation) playing in what is now league 1 and York City playing in what is now the championship and ourselves playing four divisions below our current level and now it becomes almost a disaster when we fail to beat these teams.
I tend not to get carried away by either wins or losses as games can change quickly as a result of one lucky break and I personally get a lot out of football irrespective of the football. I think when people say with any degree of objectivity that it is their worst ever Eastleigh performance they are probably referring to games in the National League as in my view defences are lot more resourceful than in the National League South.
I do understand the need for a target man and some of our forwards might score more goals playing off one, but are strikers required to score goals, defend at set pieces and play as wide men if required. I say this because I do not think Ryan Bird has played one minute since being bought on as a wide man against York, and it is fair to say that a lot of people were surprised at this substitution.

"I personally get a lot out of football irrespective of the football."
The best single sentence i have ever read on this forum. Well said, Malcy.
Sadly, not many people will understand or appreciate its meaning, because as Callum has pointed out in his post, far too many fans cry over the result and performance of one game. They just don't see the bigger picture, nor do they appreciate that football means so much more to some people, than solely what happens in the 90mins on the pitch on match days.

For me, Eastleigh got it tactically wrong Saturday, while Chester did a York while defending & took what slim chances hey had. It was frustrating seeing their lumbering centre back dominating in the air while their full backs blocked a hell of a lot of crosses. I can't recall any through balls down the middle to Mandron or Wilson as they would've ruined their defence for pace. It was all working it across the pitch to the wings, although in my view Stearn did well on his debut, the way we played was all too easy for Chester. It's all a bit 'samey' in the teams approach isn't it?

Havent seen many, but its quite easy to suss us out if we line up with 2 wingers & 1 holding midfield player in a midfield 4. We are obviously not intending to play through the middle or lay balls into our strikers and will look to get the ball wide as soon as Drury gets the ball at his feet. So stop our crosses or defend them well, and you completely nullify us. In that kind of midfield line up, every time Drury gets the ball centrally, his first look is going to be wide both ways. There's no point passing it inside to Taylor as he can't do anything with it. That's why for me Jai needs to play, or another ball playing middle man, so that he and Drury can look at other options or play it amongst themselves to move us through the middle. Jai can play the ball around the corner into a striker's feet or into his path if he has made a defense splitting run, he doesn't look wide everytime. Do we really need a Taylor type against a Chester? Not in my view, lets put footballers in the middle of the park and let them get us playing. I'm sure Taylor will have his uses against the better teams in tight games, but you dont need to start out with holding players against the lower teams.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. EFC LACK PACE. Until that is rectified we will continue to be outside the play off places. A smidgen of hope; the young Brazilian substitute, did look to have pace; as such he needs to be playing a lot more minutes.

Thank you for your comment sattsy. I am not sure that the sentence was grammatically correct, but I think people can see what I mean.

the 'being scared to shoot' was definitely more noticeable on Saturday, seemed to be waiting for the perfect opportunity rather than taking risks and 'shooting on sight' - so as referred to, could be confidence / fear of failure - also thought Mandron had to keep coming back deep to get the ball which then didn't help as we only had Wilson left up front. In the first 20 mins or so we had some good early crosses in from Stearn but they were often too early as not enough players had gotten themselves forward in the box. Still love the whole game experience though, 3rd year as ST holder and go with my 74 yr old Dad - also great to see and hear the passion ( and frustration ) of fans - guess we just have to find the balance between those !
