Talking about players Eastleigh have let go (having just seen the news about Jai), one of the highlights of the holiday i just got back from was walking past a Funchal bar when I glanced at the football showing on their big screen TV to see Jamie Collins in a gold shirt heading a ball. I'd completely forgotten the Sutton v Leeds game was on. Anyway, thanks Jamie for giving me an excuse to sit down and have a beer so I could watch the last 25 minutes. I enjoyed watching both Jamie and Dan Spence outplaying Leeds United and getting that historic win. Apart from the obvious Eastleigh connections there was a bit more history there that the media seem to have missed. Did any of the papers mention JC's previous? Didn't he knock Swansea out of the cup with the Havant & Waterlooville team that went on to lose 4-3 in the next round against Liverpool? Wasn't Ian Baird managing that H&W team at the time? Didn't Ian Baird once play for Leeds? OK so some of the pundits might have recalled all that and I might have missed it being away but there was no mention of those connections on the English language sports channel or in the English papers which I saw the next day. Those kind of facts would have been mentioned as a matter of course in the past. Perhaps it's just another sign that the FA Cup no longer holds the nation's imagination the way it used to .
