Despite the warm weather my arthritis forced me to watch the second half from the motorway end seats where there quite a few NTFC fans.
One with a booming voice marked each of Eastleigh's goals with a deafening " You're rubbish, Cobblers" When the visitors finally scored he relented - " You're still %$£!*&££! rubbish Cobblers".
I'm tempted to agree. A brilliant day for the Spitfires.

Anyone know where Luke was today

I know its only a PSF but we looked like the League 1 team today.
Saw Luke after the game walking round in front of shed end -is injured but hopefully will be fit for next Saturday.

I would say that all the players we've brought in look far better than those that left at the end of last season (Jamie Turley excepted) but after these PSFs it's still difficult to know how good we are. We'll have a much better idea at the end of August. Another entertaining & enjoyable game today. My guess is that NT will struggle in L1 this season, rather disappointing after last season's successes.

So far things are looking pretty good!
Good to see our strikers all getting goals. The "pre-season golden boot" looks close:
Mandron 5, Wilson 5, Constable 4, Yemi 3.
Get the idea Ross is just edging it over Huddart for the No. 1 Jersey at the mo.

Great performance today. We look and play like a league side. Our manager has several problems though. 1. Knowing what his strongest team is. 2. Starting next week, teams will come here and pack the penalty area. If there were people from Guiseley here today they would have gone home very scared. 3. I still beleive we need a big strong aggressive and experienced target man. Long balls into the box may be the only answer in some games. 4. This is probably the strongest this league has ever been. Usually its between 2 or 3 teams, but this year it looks like at least 8 could win it. 5. The abolishion of the transfer window will mean Forest Green will keep spending right through the season. They are the one top team who's squad is not as good as the one they finished last season with.

If you think 8 sides can win it surely you mean its a weak league and up for grabs? Having said that, the terminology of using such a word as 'weak' is dependent on how its used to describe the subject. Is the league weak when for example we dropped points against all the relegated sides last season, Welling, Kidderminster, Altrincham and Halifax. Put in that context, I can't see it being up for grabs by 8 sides, but it is a matter of opinion obviously. For me there are 4 strong sides and the champions should come from either, Tranmere, Dagenham, Forest Green and ourselves. Our PSF results has lifted my hopes that things are falling into place and this could be the time we've been waiting for. As said above by nobadspitfire, "we'll have a much better idea at the end of August" and I rather hope there will be lots of smiling spitfires everywhere. COYS.

We had four months of dire football from January, and a lot of fans voiced their disapproval of it, nothing has changed it seems, we've found two very good strikers by all accounts and nothing else. The bookies have us as second favourites for the title...they have to be joking, its nowhere near a top six team, let alone a title one.
Spirit - that was your quote on the Weymouth thread less than a month ago.
Now its between us and three others!!!!
You have to love social media and modern football!!!
I think with 1 or 2 additions we might have a chance but you never know. We will do our best. We have had a solid pre season and despite your comments after the Weymouth game I don't think we are too far away but you never know till it starts.

PS games always bring out the "we're going to win the league/we are crap brigades". You can only ever really gauge how the season is going to pan out after 10 league games, so lets see where we are then. Personally, i feel we look fantastic going forward. We now have goalscorers who are in form and we have more than 1 person who can provide clever balls to the strikers. I feel that jake Howells could become a very important player for us if played in a more forward role. Mandron is very special. Wilson looks good and lively and to be fair Beano he looks like he's playing differently and has upped his game. Have we finally found a partner for him? I'll be honest here, the one that has really caught my eye in the last 2 games in terms of improvement, despite only playing for less than half a game has been Ross Lafayette. I've rubbished him in the past as weak, i felt he doesnt contest headers and i felt he wasnt trying at times, but yesterday he won just about every ball that came his way, he battled for everything and he looked very sharp & classy in his link up play. he also looked good against Barnet. Im sure when it comes to the Guisley game, Beano and Mandron will start and will probably start more games than most up top, but with Wilson, Lafayette & Yemi to come on, they all offer something different and all look like they want it. I hope we can keep them all sharp and happy. My only concern is with the CH's, who still do not look right to me and none of them really win headers and dominate their man and that is where teams will score against us. Northampton had about 5 corners yesterday and we didnt clear one with our heads. We need a Josh Gowling please, SD... As fr our first choice keeper next Saturday, it has to be Ross, who's talking yesterday was immense and you just dont hear that from younger keepers. Although im certain Arsenal will be expecting Huddart to play regularly, and if he doesnt, he will probably get recalled and Arsenal will never loan us a player again. They have a long association with Borehamwood, who they have loaned plenty of players to and those players always go straight into the starting line ups, so i reckon once Flits makes one mistake, he could be swapped out, just to keep the Gunners happy..

That's why football can be so fickle Stewart, and my comment after the Weymouth thread was one many of us thought, be to fair though, the tide has gradually been turning with each passing friendly. As Zochlo says above "I'm even more optimistic now". A lot of us meet regularly in The Wagon Works and for the first time yesterday the comment was made that we could win the title this season. That's a massive turn around from a month ago, so credit to the team and manager for that. Nothing pleases me more than to be proved wrong...maybe my comment was the kick up the wotsits that spurred them on!!!! lol....but seriously, and you know I'm serious when I bet, I've decided my annual season treble bet of a tenner will be going on Man United, Newcastle and Eastleigh to win their leagues. I only got one right last season,...... Sutton United, but I'm quite confident this will go very close at a decent set of odds.

Hard to tell yesterday as Northampton were poor, despite it being their strongest available team - they had a few injuries picked up in other PSFs, especially in defence. Their forum is all doom and gloom after last season's successes, their new manager isn't going down a storm yet.
A few preliminary thoughts, echoing some of those above: 1) Mandron looked useful, will have to cut down on the whinging and looking for non-existent fouls. Can he keep thatenergy up all season? Looked as if he could fit in well with both Beano or Lafayette. Didn't see enough of Wilson to say, but he did score with virtually his first touch :-) 2) Midfield looked good as ever, I've heard good reports of Howells in other games and he didn't disappoint here. The rest contributed well. Drury good as usual. 3) Defence looked OK - I thought our captain looked a bit vulnerable (but he was playing against Gorre, their most dangerous player on the day) but he looked good coming forward. Essam and Green looked steady, Obileye won a lot in the air but doesn't look a very cultured player. Huth sounds interesting - again too little seen here to say. Clearly not related to Robert, though :-) 4) Ross made several excellent saves/blocks and communicated well with his defence. He missed the corner for Northampton's goal. So as usual a bit of a mixture. But for this level he is worth his place as a starter. I've not seen Huddart but I expect he'll get a few games somewhere...
Prediction: top 7 again. Other teams have strengthened a lot too and there is no mid-season transfer window. So can't say more than that. We'll be challenging. Will we be entertaining enough for those who demand fine football as well as good results? Not sure. But we'll probably score a lot and concede a lot as usual.
