I think Ross Bottomley made a good contribution after coming on as substitute.

It looks to me that Salisbury need saving yet again, this time from Steve Claridge. The man is absolutely clueless. Apparently played 3 at the back against Winchester and wondered why his defence was overwhelmed every time Winchester attacked. I saw the game at Taunton and they were even poorer than their pre season indicated they would be. The South West division is a very poor league. Its worth remembering that this league is one step lower in the pyramid than it was 20 years ago. In fact its about the standard of the old Hampshire league division . They may have 700 die hard fans at Salisbury at the moment, but I bet its neare 200 by the end of the season.

I think that even if the Conference South and Conference North had not been formed more than half of the teams currently in the Southern League South and West would be two divisions below the Conference. There are currently two step two leagues and six step four leagues and the Southern League has been operating with three divisions for a long time.

How much longer can Claridge justify holding the position of Manager at Salisbury. He oversaw the worst pre season possible, with mainly totally innopropriate opposition to judge his squad against, signed or kept at the club 6 players with long term injuries and can't even fill the bench recently. He got into an argument with Havant over goalkeeper Charlie Searle (an exceptional prospect) because they did not want him cup tied. He threw his toys out of the pram and Havant quite rightly said stuff it. He then signed a young keeper from Southampton who failed to impress. Not surprising playing behind one of the weakest defences I have seen above local amature football. He dispensed with his services after 3 games and brought in a young lad from Portsmouth who is OK, only to admit now that Pompey don't want him cup tied. He is now forced to field Nathan Ball, who is clearly not good enough to play in the Wessex league and the game the Pompey youngster can play in is the FA Trophy match against Hereford, where even if they had the best keeper in the country in goal, they would be lucky to keep the score down to 6. He is tactically inept and his judgement of players is laughable. Unfortunately he holds 25% of the shares and so is unlikely to be removed unless yet another sugar daddy arrives on the scene. As I previously wrote Salisbury need saving again, this time from Claridge.

Just a qick update on the Claridge situation. You may remember he lost a very good keeper on loan from Havant, because he would not accept that Havant would not allow him to be cup tied. He signed a young keeper released by Southampton, who after 3 games he let go. He then signed a good young keeper from Pompey, who's parent club did not want him playing in the FA cup. Up stepped the only other keeper on the books to play in last Saturdays cup tie. It would appear that he was not good enough to play in the Wessex league last year and is extremely suspect when having to come off his line to meet through balls. Appparently all went well against Frome as he had nothing to do at all until about the 60th minute when a through ball which he would have got to first if he had shown any sort of determination, was pushed past him and he stuck out a leg and brought his man down. He was given a straight red. This leaves Salisbury without a keeper for the 2nd qualifying round on the 17th September. You could not make it up.
