Very good decision, well done EFC.

Yes, it makes sense from both clubs' point of view to have it on a Saturday, and probably easier for the Chester fans (assuming they actually want to come back here).
It doesn't suit me personally though, and I don't think two weeks' notice is a lot of time. Guests of season ticket holders will now have experienced a postponement and another date change. They will have to be pretty keen to attend. I appreciate that Eastleigh didn't expect to be out of the FA Cup, though, and Chester probably didn't either.

I hope EFC didn't EXPECT to be in the next round of the FA Cup. If so, that smacks of complacency. A lot of fans expected it, I'm sure, but the Cup runs we've had in the past 2 years were under different Managers & were never going to continue just because we're a NL club. Wonder how the defeat affects the playing budget? Edit.. we did reach 2nd rd 14/15, losing at Southport, which, at the time was the furthest we had gone.

Maybe they could have delayed the decision on the rearranged Chester date until after the FA Cup weekend, in that case?
My impression was that one or two players 'expected' to win on Saturday, which accounts in some part for the defeat. RH was very clear pre-match that this he took nothing for granted, but then he says that they have brilliant training sessions, too.
And playing a physical game with plenty of long-ball, which is probably what Hereford see most weeks in their league, wasn't a clever idea either, since Hereford were better at it than we were. As has been asked before, was that also in the training sessions?
Cup runs are never guaranteed, so I hope it was not an integral part of the budget. Having said that, if we'd beaten Hereford, the Cup draw would, on paper, have given us another winnable game.
As I've said before, we seem to have tried all options now, apart from investing in youth. No guarantees there either. Might be a good time to start now we're out of the Cup, though.

Certainly something needs to be done to 'freshen up' the squad and style of football we are playing. But it looks like we'll have to wait until January, if that is going to happen.

5 at home in the next 7... that can't be fair surely?
Joking aside a big few games coming up, I think we need a minimum of 7pts from the next 4

5 at home in the next 7... that can't be fair surely? Joking aside a big few games coming up, I think we need a minimum of 7pts from the next 4 MINIMUM - Like when the ref assistant showed a board showing a minimum of 6 minutes injury time would be played, and the opposition scored in the 7th minute? How is that even possible?!
Joking aside - minimum of 7 pts from the next 4 to achieve what exactly?
- To put us back in contention of winning the league? - To put us back in contention of playoffs? - To help move us back to mid-table mediocrity? - To ensure we don't get drawn into a relgation battle? - To save Richard Hill's job?
What is the aim now this season? How does this compare to the aim at the start of the season? IF the goalposts have moved then why have they moved?

Personally I think the aim is a good mid table position. Not sure that it has moved for me at all, other then if we had found someone to score lots of goals we may have been challenging for a play off spot, but that's probably more hope then an aim.
I'm sure the club/board/manager would have been aiming higher, but looking at the situation in August I'm not sure realistically we could have looked at much more then mid-table for this season.

I agree. I've seen nothing this season that suggests this is the year for the great push upwards. Once again, we are not hitting the back of the net often enough to be contenders and recent games have seen our inability to hang on when defending a lead. A third of the league season gone, I'd certainly be happy with a mid-table place at the end of 2017/18.

I'd certainly settle for a mid-table position at the end of the season, but what I want to see is more exciting, attacking, possession football than we've seen so far this year. TBH the stuff we watch atm is turgid, predictable & dull, and I'm sure it's turning a lot of fans we've picked up in the past 3 or 4 seasons off of watching EFC.
It'll be interesting to see the crowd for the Solihull game next week. I can't go (gig) but even if I was, I wouldn't want to put a potential new supporter through the tedium of an evening at the Silverlake, even if it is free.

I’d just be totally embarrassed to bring any body to a game and admit that’s how I spend my time and money. Utter dull and turgid rubbish with a bunch of unskilled hoofers

I wasn't expecting a push upwards this year but my big concern is given the average age of the squad - I make it the second oldest in the top 5 divisions, only beaten by West Brom - is that we are just writing off another year as we'll be replacing at least half the squad again at the end of the season. I will however be bringing two friends to the Solihull game, it's important to support the club and I don't think theyre under any illusions that it's going to be like watching Barcelona, just some live football and a couple of beers with mates.

I think it made sense to rearrange the game for midweek at the time. Both us and Chester were playing lower league opposition in our respective games and for the game to moved to 1st round day it meant both teams (not just 1) had to be knocked out, OK thats happened but it was an unlikely outcome. Even if both games were 50-50 that makes just a 25% chance of us both getting knocked out.
Obviously with draws and replays it could have delayed the rearrangement further and I think given the furore about the intital fixture and subsequent reactions to it Eastleigh FC wanted to get this game rearranged and get the statement out there quickly.
But agree that it makes to now change the game to Nov 4 as we have done.
So in my mind EFC got both things spot on

Re our season:
We were 16th last season. 11 players (I think) of that unsuccessful squad were contracted for this season so my head says a top half finish would represent reasonable progress. However the heart says top 7, it may be a relatively low points total (70?) that gets 7th so if we can stay in the middle of the table and get a decent run late in the season we might just make it.
We've got a few home games coming up (did someone say 5 in 7?) so perhaps a bit of a make or break part of the season to see if we can make a challenge for the top 7, Trophy is coming up as well of course, be good to make a proper go for that this season.
That's all ifs buts and maybes of course. We need a win ASAP, feels like its been a while. A cliche but its one game at a time
