I appreciate that Eastleigh didn't expect to be out of the FA Cup, though, and Chester probably didn't either. Good decision even if it is less convenient for some. I hope EFC didn't EXPECT to be in the next round of the FA Cup. If so, that smacks of complacency. A lot of fans expected it, I'm sure, but the Cup runs we've had in the past 2 years were under different Managers & were never going to continue just because we're a NL club. Wonder how the defeat affects the playing budget? Edit.. we did reach 2nd rd 14/15, losing at Southport, which, at the time was the furthest we had gone. I remember that visit to Haig Avenue as being a bitterly cold one and I believe we had Dean Beckwith sent off in that game. We were a stronger squad then. As has been pointed out quite rightly the excellent set of players we had a couple of seasons ago has since been cast to the winds, many of them by Mr Allen. As also rightly pointed out, we have a fairly old squad in terms of average age and certainly not an extremely strong one. Perhaps part of the problem might be that we haven't recruited better players soon enough. As far as I can recall, RH since his return has brought in Ben Williamson, Cavanagh Miley, Harvey Read, Callum Howe (loan from Lincoln until January), Sam Matthews (loan from Bournemouth till Jan) and Gary McSheffrey (on a short term contract until Jan) plus I think Danny Hollands has come in since Richard came back. Except for Harvey Read who I don't recall seeing play, the rest look like good signings to me and some of them are even young! I am concerned like others that we do need some more strengthening but I can understand it if there has been a wish by the management team not to rush into hasty recruitment until the right players are able to be brought in on the right terms - especially considering some of the dire signings of the previous regime.

And what has happened to Sam Mathews, or where is he??

He's injured, I spoke to him last week. He had hoped to be back by this week but wasn't sure if he would be. I reckon we'll see him pretty soon.

If you add Sam to the set up we started with today we could be unbeatable. Play offs here we come. Now where is my tin hat?
