Bang on post as usual Malcy. Keith, I do wish you get fully behind James Constable and rest of the team for the coming season. What`s in the past, stay in the past. However if you are still hell bent on last season`s performances and bullying one individual on the keyboard, then I look forward to you starting on our Defence from last season which conceded the most goals in any National season we competed in. Oh dearie me....you think I am bullying an individual? No I am not, I am merely one of many who thinks 5 league goals from the centre forward over an entire season is a joke. The majority don't like to come on and have a go, which is their right, but do not be fooled that large numbers of fans think he is washed up.
But lets suppose he surprises everyone this season with shall we be kind and say 15 league goals......I'd argue that we fans gave him the kick up the backside he needed and go prove us wrong. Would that be a good thing in your book?
The major problem is he just does not work with a strike partner, how many have moved on while he remains...why is it not him at fault but everybody else? Why are strikers not willing to sign for our club? Let me tell you this, players talk, and when word got out that on his facebook page he foolishly posted a photo of himself in SD's private swimming pool it sent out a message....the wrong kind of message. Admittedly this was about two years ago now, Easter 2015 if I recall correctly, does that affect the dressing room? Does it affect strikers wanting to come here if he is such a chairman's favourite? That's the damage caused by a photo on his facebook page, he should never have done it.
He got a new contract for 2016-17 season when he should have been moved on after a poor season, he's got another contract this season for 5 league goals....what's the betting he gets another next summer?
As for starting on our Defence which conceded most goals in our seasons in the top level, most fans are agreed on Stack is rubbish, so we all hope Flit comes in, though his kicking is weak. Hilly tends to like to ensure we do not lose a game rather than try to win it, so basically we ought to be fairly strong defensively because of the team set up. Obviously you cannot think about winning games if your striker is only going to hit the onion bag five times in a season can you!!!!!

That's a huge leap saying that a photo on facebook 2 years ago means that strikers won't sign for us!!!! Think the number of strikers that we have signed since then and maybe even some common sense would disprove that. If footballers did not sign for clubs due to social media then they would not sign for anyone given the amount of trolls around.
Last season only 3 strikers scored more then 20 in NL, the season before there were 6 so they are a very rare breed and what you should be looking for is two strikers who are going to contribute 15+ a season and hope one of them hits a run that will give them 20+, then you are bang in with a chance.
Beano has achieved 15 or more in 2 out of his 3 seasons with us and RH obviously thinks he has something, but it has been stated that he is dropping into midfield this season so I don't think, unless we are looking for 15 goals from his deeper role which seems unlikely, that we are expecting 15+ from him this season.
Think the more important thing then worrying about Beano, at the moment, is wondering who else is going to contribute goals in a big(any) way Macullum is our great hope but he is also our only hope at the moment it all looks a bit thin on the ground.

Am sure we will be going for another striker, if not 2.

I think I appreciate factual information as much as most people, but I think that nearly all of the criticism of JC is directed at his scoring record of last season which his critics mention eight times in this thread. I have done my best in this thread to look at things in an overall context and I personally do not think this is significant in itself.
Further to this it is perhaps interesting to know that 5 years ago we signed Craig McAllister when he was over 30 years of age to be our number 9 to spearhead our attack in our efforts to win promotion. Craig had the previous season played 39 games in the Conference National and scored only once, but his goals still helped us get promoted and reach the playoffs the following season.
I did in fact meet JC at both the presentation evening and the opening of the new clubhouse and I personally thought that he interacted well with those around him. I had previously thought that him and Matt Tubbs did not really hit it off, but it transpired that they knew each other from their younger days. Another of his striking partners Yemi was one of his colleagues on the painting project.
Thank you to efctommygreen for his compliments, although I apologise for the length of this communication.

When you try to balance the overall context Malcy you compare JC with another player, namely Macca. You are a fan of JC, you defend his record, and you have the absolute right to do so, I do not object to that. But you criticise those of us who are against him...do we not have a right to our opinion then? My issue is purely with his goal record over the last two seasons, its not been good enough and he probably accepts that himself. I've always said his work rate is first class but goals is his mandate, its what he was brought to the club to do.
Still what will be, will be...............Final judgement next April then?

I think that spiritofeastleigh does not fully understand my position. I have never said the decision to retain the player is the right one and on that issue I could see both sides of the argument. However I felt that some of the criticisms that have actually been made of the player have been a bit over the top and not necessarily factually correct. However I Think that now the player has signed on we should in my view encourage him to contribute as much as possible.
I am not sure that criticism helps the player. I think it is fair to say that on a few occasions Ronnie Moore publicly criticised his strikers and I see that JC featured in 17 games under Ronnie Moore and did not score once. People might not necessarily think much of his overall record under other Eastleigh managers, but he has at least scored a few goals under their management.
My reference to Craig McAllister was to show as I did earlier in the thread that a player having a disappointing season cannot necessarily be written off for the following season/seasons.
I was interested in the reference to two seasons. I thought that his record of scoring 15 goals in 36 league games in 2015/16 was a reasonable return, but maybe other people see that differently.

That's the relevant point. Doesn't matter what you think of the player, he is signed on, he is going to be playing, so support him and the club; look for every opportunity to be encouraging. I know this is so un pc and criticism is the bees knees, but actually, very few players play better with constant criticism and it is obvious on this forum there are people who want JC to fail and will cheer if he does. That attitude helps no-one, and JC least of all.

Five league goals is not factually correct then Malcy? How is that a bit over the top?? There will always be people for and against JC.....if he were to score 15 league goals from midfield this season he would be a hero to one and all, that's how it goes, he'll take the plaudits, but he'll remember those who support him, like Malcy and Michael which is right and proper. From my point of view I'd give him the credit he deserved and say well done for proving me wrong. Fans are fickle with players, remember when everyone loved Jai then last season many could not wait to see him out of the club...it's football life.

I agree very much agree with michaelefc's comments. I could reply to spiritofeastleigh's comments, but since I have informed admin that I wish for my account to be deleted (although with my posts kept) I have decided not to do so.
My spare time is precious and I have spent an inordinate amount of time trying to explain my position without success, and I personally get very frustrated by some of the things that are put on this forum, and I feel that my views on what is appropriate to post is probably different to that of the majority of people on here.
Thank you to those who have liked the material I have posted on this forum. I shall not be joining the other forum as I would find that even more frustrating.

don't get too frustrated "unknow quantity", enjoy a lot of your posts, hope to read plenty more.
i think its in the nature of forums that some people will completely misunderstand a point, deliberately or otherwise. some will just argue round in circles for the sake of it and even contradict themselves in the same post. the nature of the beast i feel, sometimes you just got to shake your head & move on
don't give up!

I have decided that I will not be deleting my account, but this and other threads I have seen and/or participated in has convinced me that face to face discussions are often more productive. I therefore value conversations in the clubhouse after games, and attending supporters club meeting and question and answer sessions with the owner and manager when I can.
Some people have been critical of the supporters club on here, but at the last AGM Stewart was proactive in suggesting ways as to what projects the committee who are all volunteers could involve themselves in the future. I have never had any role in the supporters club, but it is perhaps worth noting that when the club were 21st in the Conference South the supporters club spent a reasonable amount of money in purchasing covers, with Stewart being sufficiently delighted by this initiative that he reciprocated by purchasing Dean Beckwith and Chris Todd as players and they played an important part in us still achieving a playoff place that season, which was followed by promotion the following season.
