Trialists looked good. Assuming Beano might be playing out wide more regularly from now on, based on tonight I would welcome that. He did well there. Impressed with Stearn and Hollands also.

Even Constable scored, just how bad are Basingstoke now?! Constable's work ethic in tonight's match was spot on. Easy to joke about him when you're sat at home on your keyboards but he was brilliant tonight. First friendly and we all came away feeling positive about the football that was played. Credit where credit is due - well done Eastleigh

So Beano is NOT going to be converted to a midfielder then, where did that little gem come from in early May? If he starts at Bromley then don't expect us to be in top ten come April 30th 2018. It was a friendly, against kids by all accounts. Give him credit!!!! FIVE league goals from the centre forward who played more minutes than anyone last season and you want to give him credit.
Ask yourself this, why can't we sign strikers? What has happened to all those we have signed in the last 4 years....all moved on because Beano is better than all of them!!!!! Is that why we only have Macca and Zebrowski back? Lets wait and see what happens with young McCallum shall we.

Constable's league tally last season was an absolute joke. How he got a new contact i honestly don't know. You can be as hard working and grafting as you want but with no ability to match it it's no use! He must have some kind of hold over the club,no one with any sense would have offered the new deal.

Friendlies like this are just to build up fitness. thats it really. To knock who played after one friendly game of the season is ridiculous. How on earth is that supposed to encourage the players and the team in general. The score and actual result is just not relevant. Chap doesnt score he gets moaned at- same chap scores and he still gets moaned at!!!! lETS GET REAL!!!!!!

JC played wide midfield 2nd half and did well. Yes it was a friendly against limited opposition. He looked better than Zeb who did not look match fit yet. McCallum didn't do muxh when he came on 2nd half but early days.

Highlight of the night for me was seeing Jason Taylor playing the whole second half and back to his usual self - barking out instructions. We missed him last season.

Never understood all the grief James constable gets. Ok he had a poor season last year as did a lot of our players.

Togwell didn't have the same effect on getting the team going. Taylor is what I'd call a proper rich hill kind of player who will get stuck into everything and basically be a massive leader on the field. If the team captain hasn't been decided I'd like to think he'd get it, he'd be my choice, or Cresswell. However, it'll be interesting to see how his injury holds up this year now we know it's a degenerative injury so the more he plays the worse it might get!

James Constable has scored over 150 league goals at Conference National level and above during the course of his career and his best spell at this club was under our current manager. It is certainly rare when a person with this kind of record scores against a team two divisions lower than Conference National level in a pre-season friendly for it to be regarded as an indication as to how bad the opposition is.
