Good comeback after the visitors had the better of the first half after the first 20 minutes, being first to the ball and gaining a deserved lead. Strevs worked his magic again at half time (not for the first time) and we were much more competitive after the break, and faster in the buildup. They may have been tired as they had played on Sunday. They were on a good run of form, and looked a good side, but we wore them down and, although we had a bit of luck with at least one of the goals, probably just shaded it. Tom Whelan was back to form after the Christmas break, the whole team worked hard, and one of our forwards scored a goal! Big crowd, good atmosphere...

We were clueless first half but improved in the second. Not sure Strevens worked any magic though? The win was fortunate as the Torquay keeper basically fumbled the ball in to his own net for the second goal. A draw would have been a fairer result. We are what we are, a mid table team with no quality in the final third. The FA trophy is where we should now be focused on as we are no where near good enough to trouble the play offs but better than the relegation mix.

These things cut both ways. We were a bit out of tune in the first half because Torquay's players flew around the pitch chasing and closing every ball and we had passes going astray because we hadn't played for 10 days and we were adjusting to a few enforced team changes. We did however defend well on many occasions in the half and restricted them to one very well taken goal. In the second half, while Torquay lost a bit of the attritional effort they had shown before half time, we stepped up and took advantage. They were still the side which had won their last three games on the bounce and they came to Eastleigh expecting three points. It was an excellent win and good cause for optimism. We have every reason to hope for a play off place, especially if we can get one or two good higher league players in for the rest of the season, even if only on loan.
