very sad news that Roger Sherwood has recently passed away.
Roger spent a number of years at Eastleigh starting as a player in 1968 and later as a manager and chairman.

I can see nothing on either the club website or club's twitter feed or indeed nothing on the internet as a whole. He was a player at the club for 10 years. With 289 appearances and 133 goals for the club he is high up in the list on both counts and of course a club restaurant is named after him.
He was also manager for the two seasons 1955/96 and 1996/97 and chairman from 1996/97 until stepping down in 2006, and while in the latter role twice stepped in as manager for short periods.
Not too much of a surprise as he had been unwell for a long time.

I got involved with the youth team in Rogers last season as manager. I then spent many years with the youth and reserves under his chairmanship whilst also being a committee member. During this time I had fantastic support from Roger who was such a major force as the club began a successful period leading to moving up the pyramid. I could not have asked for a better relationship with the powerbase of the club. He is a man I will always be grateful too.
A mountain of a man I still remember when the club hosted a Hampshire Cup semi-final between Aldershot and Newport Isle of Wight. Referee on the night was, future Premier League official, Rob Styles. Newport won but Aldershot fans totally blamed Styles. Those that remember Ten Acres in those days will know there was a 25 yard long railed walkway from the pitch to the changing rooms. Aldershot fans lined up both sides of the rails ready to give the ref what for. Roger, quickly spotting the potential major incident, came up behind Styles, wrapped him in his arms and in next to no time had 'carried' him, fully protected, into the referees room. A fantastic character who will be greatly missed.
He won the Wessex League when manager at Romsey Town and was also very successful as manager at both Gosport Borough and AFC Totton. The fact Eastleigh named the restaurant after him highlights just how influential to the clubs success he was.
RIP Roger I, for one, will never forget
