The Hampshire derby is nearly here.
Would both sides be fairly content with a draw? 5/2 looks a decent bet IMO

And so it was, 0-0.
Not the greatest game and we didn’t look like scoring - but lots better than another defeat

Not losing was the only positive of last night. Poor game and we are devoid of confidence. Glass half full view is that when you are on a poor run you have to keep a clean sheet. Glass half empty view is Strevens is taking us down because in a relegation scrap you have to win your home games against teams near to you.

I liked the look of Scrimshaw, loved his endeavour and also Alibis endeavour too, he was rattling their big balding defender, however I dont know what Mr Rendle brings to the table and I would have taken him off, earlier, and replaced him with Barnet as I feel he and Alibi have a threat about them as he partners Tyrone where Mr Rendle does not. Also why change things at half time and move Alibi to left wing ? it doesnt fool the opposition defence it never did under Hill, it just means the midfield and our defense have to work where their front men are or rather where the big has gone and where the smaller one with bear shins is now playing. Ive just realised, weve relaced Richard Hill with Richard Hill junior

These kind of games really reveal a lot about players. I wouldn't complain about the effort put in by any of them. I accept Scott Rendell was struggling to make an impact but on the other hand I wasn't sure I understood his role and I'm guessing he might not have done. I think at this level you have to keep it simple for the players. I've seen a fair bit of technical ability from Scott in the past and I think as we adjust we can get excellent performances from him. I would keep total faith in this management team at the moment but I am concerned as to who is in charge of recruitment. If Ben and Jason are targeting the players they want then all is well. Otherwise I would worry. We have perhaps 10 players of proven National League (or above) standard. I remember the much maligned "not interested in kids" Richard Hill bringing in outstanding young players and examples start with Alex Lacey followed by Ben Close and more recently San Matthews. I think we could do the same now if we can cultivate the connections Richard had - over to you Strevs.

I think that both Ben Close and Sam Matthews joined Eastleigh on loan when Martin Allen was manager and Alex Lacey joined on loan from Luton when we were in the National League South. I think that some players who looked good in National League South days were less effective for the club in the National League.
From what I have seen Sam Smart has been one of the best players this season and Rob Atkinson's form has earned him a move to Oxford so I think there have been benefits to the recruitment policy.
