Really good performance against a team that I think will do well this season (despite what their fans' forum says). It was our sort of game - played like a cup tie, physical, fast - and we scored from a set-piece (they should have had a player on the line for the corner). Everyone played well, no point in making individual comments this time! Notts fans will be pleased just to have a club but today they will have a better idea about what National League football is like.

The sort of opening day performance that we dream of most seasons but rarely see.
Great turn out from the County fans - those we chatted to in the old clubhouse before the game were very positive about being in the National League and had a realistic view of their chances after being only hours from their club dying a few days ago. Perhaps we should have warned them about the referees!

I would echo the appreciation of the fantastic Notts County support. It was great to have them here whatever our more cynical fellow "fans" think. Bad day overall for the County of Notts though as I enjoyed this evening's live Sky coverage of the T20 tonking they got from Lancs - my boyhood cricket county.
Football wise, we certainly have something to build on and even if there might be a dodgy day or two ahead it was a season opener to remember. Thanks to Strevs and his brilliant management team and the players who were a credit to a man.

Thought it was a good solid performance yesterday. Probably a good time to play Notts county before they get a settled side, they did look a bit disjointed.
Anyone know what the second red card was for? Originally thought the ref had blown up for Scott Rendells challenge (which looked hard but fair).

I couldn't make out that red card either but a couple of people I spoke to, who each had a better view than I did though from different positions, did have similar if slightly different explanations. One thought the Magpies' player had kicked out at Scott Rendell's leg and the other thought he saw him stamp on him.

One thought the Magpies' player had kicked out at Scott Rendell's leg and the other thought he saw him stamp on him. It happened right in front of me. I originally thought the ref, as heโd made some weird calls, was going to send Rendell off as he did lunge a little into the challenge. But during the challenge the Notts player ended up on top and across Rendall and curled his leg up to try to kick him in the face but caught his shoulder. I think his challenge was a bit nasty too. The kick was quite Beckham Vs Argentina esq. ref made the right call. The reaction of Partington, Miley and Payne was clear, they knew the player had done wrong. Put it this way...every word they said was very clear, especially Parts ๐
