I'd hope that we give this competition a good go this season. We need the luck of the draw, of course, but an appearance at Wembley, even in a cup some people regard as tinpot, is not to be sniffed at.

Given that we make no serious stab at promotion, and are in no danger of relegation (both entirely probable IMO), the cups will make or break the season for us; so I think we need to take both the FA Cup and trophy with the utmost seriousness. We are not so big that we can afford to do anything else. A run will encourage more people to get involved, get some much need revenue in and keep things bubbling along. The quickest way to pour a huge bucket of water on our season is to go out of both cups at the first hurdle. It must not happen.

Agree with all the above - shame we've already picked a weakened team for the Hampshire Senior Cup, and lost that one.
There were only 3-4 decent sides in that one, in the others there are many better sides than us.
I wonder if the size of our squad, the fact that loan players may not be eligible for some cups, and maybe a dip or rise on form at the wrong time might also affect our Cup teams.
But it would be nice to do well in at least one of them. Let's hope AH's attitude is different to past managers.

The days of there being any value in the HSC are long gone. However the Cup and Trophy are a different matter.
The FA Cup prize fund starts at £25K in the 4Q round, £36K in Round 1 and £54K for Round 2 with the chance of TV money on top. Even the Trophy is worth around £120K to the winners. A decent run in either (or both) would be a big cash boost to the club. I suspect in the new financial reality the board will be looking much more positively at these competitions.

Financially, I'd agree. Shame it has to be solely about money, though.
For example, we could learn how to score goals again. One is enough in games at the moment but when Max goes, or Reda gets injured again, or...
The FA Cup brings in money right from the Extrs Preliminary round, it's one of the better ways of spreading some wealth around the grass roots. Most NL clubs don't seem to take the Trophy seriously - at least until the later rounds. I agree that the board should be looking at this.
