Problem is we're picking up too many injuries so early in the season. MA brought one of the best young fitness coaches with him as his assistant, but we let him go. Could turn out to be a big mistake. I expect RH is a bit old school on things like injury prevention. Really had to smile at that one bigwing. When I was young, ie many many years ago, the team I watched throughout the season used to manage to turn out the same 1st eleven week in week out and only late in the season did they occasionally need to use one or two of their second choice "utility" players if one of the first team was temporarily incapacitated. I wonder if there might have been something the "old schoolers" were doing right, back then.

Trouble is, certainly at the top level, they are running so much further and faster now, so they are always closer to an injury at any given moment; plus in the 60's especially, painkillers were given out like sweets, and they took very little trouble with their bodies, many of those old time players are now disabled.

Not a good final word to use, Michael. How about disabled or incapacitated?

Please re word that final comment. I personally find it very offensive.

I object to the word "guys", why not use a gender neutral term such as Folks, Friends or even Fellow Spitfires Supporters, and while we're at it I also think we should stop all jokes being told on this forum as some group, race, religion, nation, creed, etc. etc. is likely to be made fun of. Another very serious matter is all those offensive songs sung at matches, I propose we ban them and sing gay (oops sorry) folk songs instead and another .......

Certainly not over concerned about this defeat. Played well and didn`t deserve to lose. Overall some good performances but picking up injuries isn`t good. Its not a happy hunting ground, as we haven`t won in any of the 10 games we`ve played there in our history:(.

The players I watched as a lad - Marsh, Osgood, Bowles, wouldn't get near the top level now as the game is becoming more athletic with every year that passes.
So, as well as having football ability, you must have athletic ability. Fitness and strength / conditioning goes hand-in-hand with this. Avoiding injuries through specialist approaches is now part of the professional game and can give you the extra 5% between success and failure.
I'm not sure our leadership recognise those changes - if they do, it's not reflected in our structure as a club trying to reach the next level.

That last sentence is very fair comment bigwing. When you look at the "who's who" list on the club website we have no fitness coach, no physio - or sports therapist even -, indeed no one with any specialised responsiblity for player fitness or physical or medical condition. There are club doctors listed but as part of administration rather than football management.
