Today @ Wembley. Few from Eastleigh are going up.
Tranmere got to be strong favourites for me.

Not ideal FGR going up as Tranmere will be really strong again next season. Pathetic support from FGR, but fair play to them they have invested in the right players to get them there.

There'll be dancing in the streets of Forest Green tonight!
Shame to lose FGR to the NL rather than Tranmere. For travelling to, I mean.

From the point of view of Eastleigh going up next season, not the result we wanted. Tranmere may well start favourites next season. On the other hand I didn't get to go to Tranmere last season - so another chance to have a weekend in Liverpool.

FGR certainly deserved it today. Congratulations to them. Hard to believe they're in the Football League!
They've improved each of the three seasons I've seen them.
Tranmere will be back.

Disaster Forest Green Rovers going up for the festive period fixtures I was looking forward to the possibility of Maidenhead, Aldershot or Woking, on Boxing Day and New Year`s day. With Forest Green Rovers out of the picture, we are the nearest ( 130.2 miles )to Torquay United. Next nearest to Torquay United is Solihull Moors ( 183.2 miles ), so unlikely to be them !.

Has there ever been a FL club from a a smaller town or village? Population of Nailsworth - 5,800 (2011 census), compared with the Borough of Eastleigh's 125,900 in the same year.

Dagenham and Redbridge nearer111 miles from Torquay? ? We got Boreham Wood last Christmas, and North Ferriby/Bromley last Easter - hardly our nearest teams either.

Am I right in thinking Rushden and Diamonds is a merger between Rushden and Irthlingborough Diamonds and there is a town called Irthlingborough?
I expect that in next season's National League Torquay may well be the only team who can say that Eastleigh are the nearest team in the division to them.

I've done a bit of digging & Irthlingborough certainly was the home of R&D. Population of Irthlingborough approx 8000. At the moment, Fleetwood is the EFL club with the smallest population, approx 25000. So, certainly it looks like FGR will easily be the record holders.

Rushden and Diamonds was a merger of Rushden Town (pop 29000) and Irthlingborough Diamonds (pop 8500). The ground was just about in Irthlingborough.
Fleetwood population is almost 26000.
So as you say, FGR, in Nailsworth (pop 5800) will certainly be the smallest place with an FL club.
Glossop had a population of under 22000 when it was in the FL at the beginning of the 20th century, and it even reached the top tier.
