Being relayed is all I know, not sure if anything going on underneath re pipework/drainage etc I know at one of the forums the cost was astronomical as regards under soil heating etc

Stew said he wouldn't do a 3G pitch as it'snot allowed in the football league. Therefore the outlay for it and then cost to rip it up when/if we get promoted wouldn't be worth it.
I imagine the works are for drainage and relaying the pitch. Sure we'll find out at the forum tomorrow.

Think the plan was to do with digging a bit deeper and relaying with earth so the grass could get stronger once relaid...or something along those lines!!!!!

3g suggests a plastic pitch like Sutton & Maidstone. SD will NOT go down that route. At the last Forum he said this closed season we may put down a Desso pitch, used at most/all Premiership clubs, includes plastic inserts with natural grass as a very simple description. This change would be very expensive but includes a 5 year maintenance agreement with Desso. It would also mean the entire pitch and drainage system being replaced. As I understand it, that plan has been put on hold ftb, and it's been decided to relay the SURFACE this summer.
The past winter has been the driest in 20 years, hence there haven't been too many problems this past season apart from an unstable & uneven surface. Relaying the top couple/few inches will provide a better playing surface in the short term, but if we have a wet autumn/winter it's likely to be back to square one. As far as I am aware, the current drainage was installed around 2004 (please correct me if I'm wrong) and at that time we were just moving up the leagues from the Wessex. I think the only long term remedy is for the entire pitch and drainage system to be completely replaced and upgraded, which of course will entail considerable investment. You could argue that a better pitch could provide better entertainment. Let's see how it goes.

Didn't you know Stewart has a new venture for the Silverlake as a large allotment, sourcing all the cheap supermarkets us mid terrace-dwelling, fish finger sandwich-eating fans use.
