Can we do it.....YES we can. I truly believe we might get close to 1200, we've got the fan base, its only up to West London and when we consider almost 700 travelled to Bolton on a Tuesday night, this is doable, Saturday afternoon 3pm KO according to the Brentford website. However if you go to The FA website and see the 3rd round fixtures you will find Brentford v Eastleigh is one of the 8 missing matches not scheduled that weekend, which would suggest to me The BBC has selected the game for their Sunday afternoon FA Cup programme, which means Sunday 2pm kick-off.

Brentford will be the highest placed club Eastleigh have ever faced - I think.
There was a kudos to playing Bolton Wanderers of course, in last year's third round. A club whose history featured heroes from Nat Lofthouse to Jay Jay Okocha.
Brentford's main claim to fame as far as I can work out is that they are the only established London based league club never to have played in the top division.
They might not have the history or "glamour" but still, Brentford is the highest challenge yet in reality.
They should murder us so a bit of support might just give our side a chance. Stewart is virtually giving away seats on 10 coaches. The journey time is totally tolerable. Any reason not to go? I don't think so.

Brentford were in the old Division 1 in the 1930s, 5th was their best finish. They were first at Wembley in 1942, winning the London War Cup, beating Pompey (who were good at the time).
I saw quite a few well-known players/managers at Griffin Park in the 1980s and 90s - Steve Perryman, Frank McLintock, David Webb, Stan Bowles, a young Les Ferdinand, a young Paul Merson, a young Graham Rix... it was often the 'second club' of a lot of supporters of West London teams.

Hadn't realised they'd ever been up there but I see from their website now you mention it they had the three seasons before the war in the 1st Division then were relegated straight afterwards. i suppose they might have the shortest 1st Division career of the London clubs which have been up there. As of now their confidence might be up as they seem to have come out of their barren spell with two wins out of their last three Championship matches.

I think that Orient hold that record - one single season in the old First Division in 1962-3. Don't think they were ever that high as Clapton Orient pre WW2.

And Millwall have only been in the top flight for two seasons, again fewer than Brentford.
And yes, they're back to better form - they should have got something at Leeds on Saturday too.

Of course it wasn't until 1904/5 that any London club made it into the First Division, when Woolwich Arsenal FC - who had been the very first southern club in the Football League - were promoted.
In 1904 almost all the now-famous London and south coast teams were still members of the Southern League - Saints (top), Spurs, Pompey, QPR, Reading, Millwall, Fulham, West Ham, Brentford, all still non-league clubs. Spurs were the last non-league club to win the FA Cup.

Am I right in thinking the only non league club to win The FA Cup are Spurs in 1901 then?

Am I right in thinking the only non league club to win The FA Cup are Spurs in 1901 then? Yes, since the Football League was formed in 1888. Prior to that, of course the Cup was dominated by the public school OB teams such as the Old Etonians and the military teams eg Royal Engineers. The nearest to what we would recognise today as a "non-league" club were the 1880 winners, Clapham Rovers. They had been one of the 15 entrants in the first FA Cup in 1871/2.
