One gripe, I wish we got more information. What's the situation with Ayo? What was the true story about the Saints full back that recently left? Blimey, we have some players now................ Ayo just simply not being selected as CT prefers Essam/Creswell combo. Harding, something best kept in house and we don't all need to know, or to air dirty washing in public. Private between those applicable at the club and player himself.

It's all well and good saying we are making headlines with this landmark signing, but we will create plenty of other headlines in the footballing world when we start getting rid of ex league 2 players who have been signed, wont kick a ball for us, and canont even get in our 16....Shipping players out (we will have to) in this fashion can be damaging. If you are a player next season and we go in for you in June/July, are you thinking, hold on, they did this last year and then got rid of some of their new signings who had only just joined. Am i going to be treated like that too?..... I really hope Reda works out well for us, but there will be fallout & negative press, make no mistake about that. Some might not worry what the footballing world thinks about what goes on at our cub, some can just turn up each game and go home and switch off, but it means so much more than that to alot of us. So much good work is being done at this wonderful club, both on & off the pitch, but it doesn't take much to destroy reputations & once players start talking and putting the stories about regarding whats going on behind the scenes, it really snowballs and you pay the price medium term. Some will think it's worth it if we achieve the end goal (promotion), but i would rather we did things properly. Sure mistakes happen and players will always get moved on, but its rare that they find themselves in this situation, no doubt having been told before they signed that they would be first choice and important to the squad. Then they dont make the 16 and find themselves playing Wyvern league football. The Likes of Dugdale and Ayo are pro's, they will have professional pride, they will be pissed at the current situation, but they will no doubt knuckle down and work hard to get into the team. But in a months time, when they find they are still 4th and 5th choice, and its 2 from 5 each week, with only 1 other making the bench, then it soon becomes a situation that you need to get out of, and depending on how quickly they come to those decisions, it could have a negative effect on the morale of the squad.
Harding - We dont need to know happened with Harding, we were told very early that he had asked to go on the transfer list, i seem to remember it was his choice, so now he's gone & got his wish, lets just leave it at that.
Anyway, we've got a game tomorrow...i wonder who will not make the 16....could be a few surprises/changes in team selection i think.

Maybe I am being a bit of a "happy clapper" here but I think it is very early to be making judgements on players already. Some of the stuff above seems a bit reactionary. Which to be fair is a football fans prerogative!
Bird has played less than half an hour for us far, there are still 44 games to go. How can he be a pointless signing already?! Must admit I am not 100% sure what he looks like!
Re centre backs I think having just 2 would leave us a little bit exposed! We won't come close to promotion unless we have some decent cover when injuries/suspensions etc bite.
Its a packed start to the season with 8 games in the opening 4 weeks and you can be pretty certain we will have at least 1 significant injury at the end of it, possibly several.
We need to be prepared for this, when key players get injured we need immediate back up. If you are looking to make key signings during the season its going to be difficult as A) clubs won't want a player to leave B) takes time for a new player to settle in.
We are going for promotion here, not aiming for mid table. Of course I (and the vast majority of us) appreciate the board at EFC enabling us to have the resources to do this.
Am sure some of the players of the fringes of the squad will have key roles for us this season. Of course if a player is not making the squad at the moment they might be annoyed, that's where CTs man management skills come in, one of many skills needed to be a gaffer at this level.
We also don't know which players are/aren't 100% match fit. As CT said at the fans forum he has the "luxury" of being able to rest players who are not totally fit and bring them back in to the team slowly, that's a good thing.
Of course we have already seen a couple leave (Ross & DH) who back in April/May we presumably knew weren't a significant part of the plans for the this season.
Very early days indeed at the moment for me, I would like to see no-one leave the club for a couple of months (certainly not new players) and see how things pan out.

I understand where you're coming from Rendel but it's a dream world mate... Back in the world of reality quality players outside the 16 will not hang around if things don't look up for them. It's a big problem for any manager, maybe a nice one, but unhappy players will leave if on the sidelines...that's life, always be winners and losers in these situations sadly.

Must admit I am not 100% sure what he looks like! Some of the players have now been involved in 8 games in total. That is plenty of time to form an opinion. Carmichael, for example. Two of us formed an opinion after a poor game at Stoneham. Now having trials with Millwall, which of course may not lead to anything, but Gosport are desperate to sign him and are even waiting as his back up plan. They are happy to do that, why ? because they know he is above connie south standard. You dont see teams often saying to a player, look, go ahead and find yourself a club, but we will be waiting here for you if you cant. Anyway, i digress, but point is plenty of players are assessed on just a couple of trials, not half a season. So people in many situations at all level can form an opinion, and quite quickly. If people cant form opinions quickly then scouts around the world would spend half of their season watching 1 player, and that is not how it works. Bird fits absolutely nowhere in any style CT plays. That is why the signing is pointless. He wont play with Constable, so wont start games, so that leaves him off the bench or maybe used as a target man for Wilson, but Wilson does not start, so again, will only get on the bench. If we went one up top with a target man do you really think that he gets the nod ahead of Mandron or Beano, even though Beano is not a target man ? He gives us something different. but we wont using him effectively. We were told we went in for Bird in January, but couldnt get him. Was that to play alongside Tubbs who is not even here anymore ? Someone tell me who Bird plays with that is a starter ? He will be on the bench, and as soon as we sign another midfielder he probably wont even make the 16 as Wilson will be the attacking sub, Dawson the impact sub, the other midfielder that misses out as a result of new signing, or new signing himself, Essam and Flitney now that Huddart probably comes in.

Does anyone remember Ryan Bird from our 2014 F A Trophy quarter final?

Interesting to look at this thread just a week on and it proves the point I was trying to make.
Dugdale and Bird have both had starts and both scored goals. Arguably they've been 2 of our better players in our (disappointing) season so far.
We've had a few injuries (strangely in a similar position).
Obviously the main news is a change in manager which will invariably see some players fall in/out of favour.
Things change so quickly in football and to form much of an opinion on a new player after 2 competitive games is just an almost worthless opinion IMO.
Anyway enough of that, going to watch the ladies go for gold in the Hockey.
I played it when I was younger, went to school with one of the GB male players, watched a couple of games last olympics so I must be a Hockey expert.
I will post a tactical analysis later :0)

So what is our first impressions of Reda? Having watched him at coventry, I thought he wasn't as physical as he usually is but I think that's understandable given his track record with injuries, he looked very good defensively and it was great to see him score a trademark header, I just hope we can keep him fit and manage his games well, personally if I was Ronnie I wouldn't start him on Monday and if I he did start, take him off after the hour mark.

He looked pretty physical to me but today was the 1st time i've seen him and was very impressed. Agree RM should manage his fitness so agree he probably won't play on Monday. Did anyone else notice the friendly discussion !!! between him and Ross in the first 10 mins.
