www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/36844570 Offences which could earn players a yellow card ◾Visibly disrespectful behaviour to any match official ◾An aggressive response to decisions ◾Confronting an official face to face ◾Running towards an official to contest a decision ◾Offensive, insulting or abusive language and/or gestures towards match officials ◾Physical contact with any match official in a non-aggressive manner ◾A yellow card for at least one player when two or more from a team surround a match official New red card offences ◾If a player confronts match officials and uses offensive, insulting or abusive language and/or gestures towards them ◾Physical contact with match officials in an aggressive or confrontational manner About time the FA caught on to this, hopefully they along with match officials will have the back bone to follow it through! Some teams in our league & some players in our team could end up having some problems with this during the season..

Blimey, we're going to have to double the size of our squad.

Think a lot of teams might be saying that. I support the idea of the new rules, will be interesting to see how it plays out in practice.
Am sure Todd and the boys will be vigilant of this, especially early on.
As long as it's applied fairly & similarly all teams then no complaints from me

Rules haven't changed at all. The FA have finally decided to activate the current rules. It would be nice to think the surrounding the referee would stop, and maybe it will...unless you are Man. Utd when they intimidate referees as they always have done and will continue to do so, especially with JM in charge.

Most of the yellow card highlights come under "dissent". Strange that foul & abusive language is a red card offence though it appears both under yellow and red card offences. The real addition is the emphasis on "A yellow card for at least one player when two or more from a team surround a match official". I'll wait and see what happens higher up the leagues, though I'm sure the National League officials will be keen to go by-the-book to keep their marks up. With the change in referee-lists etc for 2016/17 there is going to be an influx of newly promoted referees this coming season, so watch out!

It is something that has been needed for years, Ronaldo would probably have played about 8 minutes in France this summer.
Players will learn eventually & the game will be better for it - but only if it is enforced across the board in a fair manner

We went to the FA this season as believe or not we only just went over the disciplinary points that warranted a fine!!! We did get a fine - rightly so but are working to improve standards. Having said that it is not something we are normally involved in or usually in trouble about.
The rules though should always be enforced. I watched OUFC v QPR final in 1986 on DVD last weekend. It was completely different no diving - tough tackles people just got on with it - no trying to get opponents booked and played by men who just got on with it and gave the referee far more respect. Not sure why we have suddenly let it into our game and then put up with it for the last 20 years. Rules should be enforced and respect should come back to the game - it is absolutely disgraceful and a shocking example for role models to set.
The main problem is though that if some people do it and get away with it and get an advantage then everyone will do it. They will do it for one simple reason the rewards in football for success and the consequences of failure are so extreme for individuals/players/clubs etc that it is as if any advantage you can get whether sporting or not must be exploited. Completely wrong but thats where it is I reckon.

Agree with that Stewart, & that is the crux of the issue, it needs to be enforced week in week out by all referees across each league in the same manner.
If our ref on the Tuesday is happy to be called a tosser & the ref on the following Saturday takes umbridge & sends the player off then the whole point of this will fail.
As consistency of officials is a bugbear across all leagues, I can see this being a problem with some enforcing the rules & some not

The problem is kids see pro's doing it and think it's ok so the situation just gets worse. I had to sub off one of my kids from my team I was coaching last weekend in a tournament because he scored and then ran along the touch line past the other bench & families with his finger over his mouth doing a "Shhhh" move - this was U8's!!!!
In another U 10 game the other coach had to pull a kid off the pitch because he kicked the ball at the ref because he wanted a corner & the ref gave a goal kick - but the ref didn't even show him a card!
I was playing in goal in our adult league last night & at the end of the game the ref came up to me & thanked me because I had earlier admitted a shot crossed the line before I got a hand to it. He was surprised someone had shown such sportsmanship - in a rec league!
Until the refs enforce their authority and the pro's cut this crap out then it will just get worse as kids think its ok.

I was also at the Oxford QPR final in 1986. My biggest disappointment in 51 years of watching football. Oxford may of "got on with it". QPR never got on with anything. We were an embarrassing shameful shambles.

A lot of it is down to the discretion of the officials on the day but there seems to be a clear decision made for all rules to be enforced this season so there will be a lot more yellow and red cards....then the idiotic FA will declare there is a problem within the game because of the huge amount of cards dissed out when all they've actually done is taken away the discretionary element. Games will end up with 9-8 players if these rules are imposed....then the media will start to say the game was a joke due to 4/5 players being sent off for swearing, complaining and so forth for a second yellow. Many games will be ruined, then there will be a rethink and allow the return of discretion. As to SD thoughts about where it all started to go wrong in showing disrespect that's easy, when we began to allow foreigners into our game, they've been doing it in Europe and South America since the 60's before infesting our game with their diving and rolling around holding their faces. I particularly dislike the 'second' knock following a clean tackle, studs raking over the back of the calfs, a step on the ankle or foot that many officials miss, deliberately trying to injure the player, this to me is one of the worse types of cheating on the field. The problem is though that if you spotted and implemented the rules every game would see maybe 6 sendings off at least because it is such a regular offence by players.

I just hope that AFC Wimbledon don't take after the Wimbledon 'Crazy Gang' team from years gone by or they'll run out of players :-)
