While a lot of the blame has to be laid at the feet of Hodgson - he picked the squad, picked the teams, set out the tactics & made the substitutions, the players just didn't look like they gave a damn. It's not just England, you could the same about Portugal & Belguim. The complete opposite can be said about the "Little Countries", Iceland, Wales, N. Ireland & Republic. Squads made up of so called lesser players but whom can play as a team and have a desire to perform for the shirt. I don't care who takes over but I would lay out 2 requirements for all future international players. They must earn less than 40 Grand a week & must NOT play for the top 5 sides in the Prem. We need to restore th pride & honor in representing your country.

Very disappointing indeed. For the last week I'd been convinced our exit would be to France in the quarters.
Iceland deserved it for sure, a lot of our players massively underperformed, the 2nd half in particular was dire.
Sad times for England but I will keep watching & supporting us!

You and who else Rendel? England can't play football...they don't know how to.

They've just completely lost their passion and drive. On the money they earn it was a disgrace. Wish I could keep that patriotism alive but I'll just have to look forward to the start of the new National League season instead! 👍

Its a funny thing the way people follow the national football team.
The vast majority of us (myself included) are club before country.
In the last week or two I've known of quite a few "England fans" (not referring to people on here) who have actually wanted the national side to lose and revelled in us getting beaten by Iceland. Each to their own I guess.
I don't think its a massive factor but the furore in the media, the general mania & quite often downright public negativity around the England side doesn't help them IMO.

Perhaps my posting earlier in the thread was tempting fate.
I think that everyone would agree that England played poorly on Monday night. For me it was disappointing that we conceded two poor goals and despite having a lot of possession our build up play was too laboured and we were unable to break down an Iceland team who looked the more likely team to score.
Despite this I can still see less negative ways of looking at our overall performance in the competition. The record this time around was 10 wins, 2 draws and 1 defeat and I think it is fair to say we never looked like losing either of the drawn games. I also believe it is the first time in four attempts that we beat Switzerland home and away in a qualifying group.
Also we have no divine right to beat an Iceland team who beat every team in their qualifying group which included home and away wins against Holland, in addition to performing well in France.
I personally think that the history of sport has a lot of examples of teams and individuals performing well below par in important matches.
