I'd heard (albeit from a Neverwillville source) that Gosport were in severe financial straits - so much so that they were considering dropping out of the National South? Obviously the signings of Flood, Bentley & now Ben show that's not the case. I'm guessing it was just a desperate story dreamt up by Havent fans in an attempt to stay in the league after their embarrassing relegation.

It was widely reported in the local press that Grotspot were suffering severe financial problems towards the end of the season, so much so that it appeared at one time that Alex Pike might leave. They've obviously got some investment from somewhere to steady the ship, so good luck to them for next season.

Yes good luck, but I think they are going to need it. Unable to pay the players wages for a couple of months last season and 2 players became free agents because of it. Former players from last season could not get away fast enough. Its interesting that the wages they paid last year were so high that certain individuals did not find it necessary to have another job. Not bad on crowds of 500. If this was Salisbury, everyone including myself would be on here complaining about it. Ben Wright does not come cheap. I hate to think what they are paying him. Its quite frightening when you are bankrolling a team how quickly the bills mount up. Even a paltry sum of £5000 a week adds up to £130,000 by Christmas. More likely 20 players on £500 adds up to £250,000 by Christmas. If you think that's ridiculous, Basingstokes budget was £15000 per week last year and they got relegated. Well they do say a fool and his money are easily parted.

Really?!?!
I don't mind Gosport. Think they will be doing very well to be top 5 next season though.

With a frontline of Wright, Bentley & Flood they should be pushing Ebbsfleet all the way for the title.
