Most football fans, managers and players think there is just one simple law with football, that being that any decision given by the referee is positive for their side.
As I said after the Solihull game I thought the ref was superb. In truth most National League referees are pretty decent.

I realise in my earlier post I should have sent 72 points from 42 games, not 72 points from 32 games in an earlier post. I would also say that I would not necessarily take the view that the club was not necessarily going backwards prior to the Bridle takeover, but I also think that some of the progress we have made since then has been greater than anyone who was at the club 12 years ago could have envisaged.

The topic of refs always has and always will dominate discussions. The reality is that at tier 5 we’ll get tier 5 level referees. Generally speaking I think they are fit for purpose and if you are able to view the game dispassionately they get much more right than wrong. From time to time all teams get a poor ref who looks out of his depth but I don’t think that’s more than a couple of times a season. What many fail to take into account is the gamesmanship, attempted cheating, and continual haranguing from the coaches that they have to deal with, and that’s before considering the pressure of crowd. Many decisions are also open to interpretation, exemplified by the often contrasting reactions of coaching teams to the same decision. For those who continually berate officials, and seem in fact to relish doing so, I would ask what can be done to get refereeing to a level that you expect? It’s often observed that too many refs don’t understand the game, having never played it. However, as far as I am aware, former players aren’t exactly queuing up to become refs but queue up to criticise them. Frankly it’s a thankless task and something I would never have considered doing. Even my limited experience of refereeing junior/school football I found challenging so I actually have respect for those who have the balls, literally, to do what is a very challenging job.
