Portsmouth dominated the ball first half without creating very much. We took the lead with our first real attack when Godfroy poked the ball home after keeper had spilled a shot from Brackley.
Thought Portsmouth would come out and turn it around after the break but the Eastleigh youngsters were on top from the KO and had two great chances to double the lead. Eventually the second came when Colvin fired home a Godfroy free kick.
By 90 minutes there was no doubt the better side were in front and although the visitors pulled one back on 93 mins the win was well deserved.
Having been involved over the years with Eastleigh sides that had made it through to the first round proper I think I am right in saying this is the first time we have knocked out a league club. This certainly tops the 1996 1-1 draw at Plymouth Argyle, before we lost 3-1 in the replay at Ten Acres, knowing the winners were drawn at home to Spurs in the next round.
Fantastic performance from the youngsters, Pickles a star in the centre of midfield, very ably supported by Femi. Central defenders Colvin and Aitken real rocks at the back and Harrison, in goal, handled the ball extremely well on a very wet night. I could go on and name many others but all in all a great team performance.
NOTE . Looks as if we bear Aldershot 2-1 in 1969 as Swaythling Athletic. Aldershot finished 6th in fourth division of football league that season. Went out to Brighton in replay in next round. Thanks to Callum for finding the historic info.

Their kids I think, plus a regular home and away fans son on the bench too
Is this a record cup run NKC?

I am pretty sure it equals the furthest we have been - 2nd Round Proper - but to reach there before we had beaten a Non League side in the 1st Round Proper -1996/97 was one of those years. But I have been about since early 80s and can not remember beating a League Club before.

Relieved my recollection of the Plymouth replay year was half decent. So this confirmed we had made second round proper before (although it was 1995-96 and not 1996-97 as I put).
Shows I am wrong in saying we hadn't beaten a league side as it shows we beat Aldershot 2-1 in 1969 when playing as Swaythling Athletic. Aldershot finished 6th in the Fourth Division of the Football League that season.

Poor draw, Gillingham away. I remember going there a few years back when Tony Lee Jack Smith was in the side I think
