First game tonight for the new look EDS (U19) squad. Looked as if high percentage of last years U18s still involved. Assume we will find out about new additions and where they have joined from over the next few weeks.
Tonight they visited newly promoted Wessex Prem outfit Andover New Street. Interesting to note there were two Wessex Prem Champions from last season on the pitch with Andover NS playing new signing Luke Dempsey, one of the mainstays in Horndeans side last season and Eastleigh having Ethan Gee at left back, a sub for many games at Horndean last year but when utilised did his bit for the cause.
Although ANS had a decent amount of ball early on it was Eastleigh who took a 2 goal lead with both strikes at the end of superb breaks with quality interchanges. Leo Downing touching in a quality low cross by Lewis Williams then Williams himself finishing off a great three player move in which he played a pivotal part in the buildup as well as the finish.
ANS were level before the break when Aaron Moore took advantage of an error with a bouncing ball, controlling it and finding the bottom corner from 18 yards. Then Lewis Tulk racing in from the right to control a great cross field ball and beating the EDS keeper. 2-2 and four top notch goals.
Lots of changes at the break without the chances created of the first half until on 75 mins New Streets Brad Walters was tripped in the box and got up to take the kick himself, blasing it against the bar. But almost immediately New Street did take the lead with a free kick by Lock from the touchline deceiving everyone and going in off the far post.
On 85 mins it was all square at 3-3 as a clever ball into the box was well controlled by the EDS sub CF who then turned his marker and slotted past the keeper.
A fair result in a most enjoyable pre-season friendly. Lewis Williams certainly the EDS man of the match with Malachi Dotse a real handful at centre forward in the first 45.
Plenty of positives.
