Genuine question here. Why would you have a trialist on the bench & only give him the last 9 minutes? Surely you'd want to give him at least 45 minutes?

I reckon it was an occasion when the result suddenly meant more than minutes or trialist. Good for moral holding a League One club. Who knows.
On the game as general I thought Oxford played well first half, far better on the ball and created two one on ones which Joe McDonnells legs came out on top both times.
Thought both Boldewijn and Nwaboukei were anonymous first half but both had far better second periods as did the rest of the team. Would say fairly even 45 but don't think we created anything in either half.
Oxford had one free kick that cracked the bar on 60 mins but McDonnell had a very quiet second half.
McCullem with one helll of a long throw but unfortunately not quick enough to race across pitch and get on thd end of it 🙂.

That's concerning, but not surprising, that we we were more worried about not losing a PSF than trying a few options & giving some trialists a fair crack of the whip!

I see Oxford had split their squad, beating Barnet 5-1 on their training ground in the afternoon, then sending a different side down to us. Looks fairly even split with players like Henry playing in the afternoon and Brannigan against us.
Still a lot of positives on our side with a number of the new players aquitting themselves very well and the two most recent signings and Panter still to play. Obviously Camp still out long term as well.

The trialist that came on at the end had already played in every preseason game prior so I'm sure Lee has had a good enough look at him already, I expect it was also some what of a measure to make sure the boys can put a shift in on Saturday against Swindon, the game certainly slowed in the second half, but it was great to see some high pressing football and with a bit more quality on the final pass we could have got a few more shots away. Certainly can take a lot of positives from last night.

Interesting to see that although Oxford played 2 games, with a split squad, on Tuesday that 10 of the players in the game against us started for them last night in a 1-0 win over Swansea.
Certainly does suggest the split was likely starters and the rest which makes our draw even more impressive.
