It starts tomorrow! Slightly unusual first game for us, its normally someone at least a couple of levels down the pyramid for our first game. Hope the non standard KO time doesn't catch anyone out either.
Could well be a few trialists featuring and plenty of subs as well I reckon.

Rovers won 9-0 at Melksham last weekend, not sure what sort of team they put out.
I still remember them as the 'big team' who had arrived in the NL in our first ever season. They got out again via the playoffs, which I think was a great relief to them, they didn't expect it to be as competitive as it was (they haven't been alone in that).
The game at the Silverlake was an exciting 1-1 draw when they finished with nine men, I think we won 2-1 at their place, which meant they gained some respect for us which they didn't have at first.
Obviously a totally different team now, not sure if Joey Barton will be on the sidelines as manager, he was banned at the end of the season.
Paul MacCallum is used to playing up front alone for us, would be nice to see some other forwards being trialled too.

Lost 0-2, seemed a bit early to be playing an EFL team who had already played, when we had only trained for a week.
Lots of changes for both teams at half-time, so hard to say much. They passed the ball around well and looked pretty comfortable, we battled, we had our moments.
We had a few trialists - one of them (no 15) partnered McCallum up front and looked quite lively without looking like scoring. Rutherford stood out in the second half, Carter was good too. Some of the new players looked better than others, but it's very early days.
Hardly any changes at the Silverlake, annoyingly the entrance to the shop from the ground was blocked off, so no chance to visit it. Potential loss of revenue today, it had better be improved in a fortnight for the Family Day. No teamsheets so grateful to the match reporter and efc21 for the lists (bit quick on the tannoy). The green stand looks the same as it did at the end of last season i.e. empty, hopefully they've done the groundwork to make filling it with seats easy. Only one toilet inside the ground, very few food outlets. The blue stand was pretty full, both home and away fans stood virtually side by side at the clubhouse end, luckliy the only incident was a blue flare thrown on the pitch by the Gas following (out of crowd that topped 1000 there must have been at least 400 following them, plenty in the stand too).
All in all, not a bad workout, but not sure what Mr.B will have learned given the high level of the opposition and the fact that most players only got about 45 mins on the pitch.

Agreed, a decent workout but not a lot learnt. I thought standouts were Tom Bragg in defence, Enzio showed some promise and the trialist up front in the first half (wearing no. 15) definitely worth a further look.

The club shop, in its former access, will mean only those in that segregated quarter can visit it. You can not have others accessing it and being 'in the ground' before they have entered the turnstiles for their part of the ground.
Therefore I assume it has been set up so you access it before or after the game but no access once in ground.
So can not see it changing back with our planned segregation.

I know it is very early days and the opposition were very good but, other than McCullum, none of the new signings took the eye at all. Things can only get better!

I know it's a minor point - I wondered if anyone might know, but the only place to get teamsheets is in the club shop. Does that mean people wanting them will have to wait around outside the ground/in the shop for them, or will they be available elsewhere?

Yup, sounds like this is part of/linked to the mooted no movement around the ground next season. I really hope the club change this back ASAP. If not it will cost the club thousands of pounds

Surprised everyone's more interested in access to a club shop when we still got NO SOUTH STAND!

Players who have ran their legs off all week can't play football on a Saturday shock. PSF waste of time, 80% of the youngsters will be off soon on loan just staying to create a team for PSF games whilst the main players find their touch for the 46 game league season.
I take it segregation was enforced, can't be long before the near sold out new stand is open, need some games to iron out possible issues.

I thought the game was a good workout. Plus points - thought the three trialists I could remember 15, 17 and 20 looked OK. 15 in particular I thought looked better when Macca went off (a couple of times in the first half they went for the same ball). Thought Solomon Nwabuokei looked good - passed forward occasionally. Was not so impressed with Jake Taylor who just didn't seem to get into the game - but hopefully he will show his value - hard to judge on 45 mins. The other thing that was poor were free kicks and corners. In a particular Aidan Barlow in the first half. We really need to work on those to make the best of Macca. Agree Bragg had a good game but he did make a couple of errors. Both goals effectively came from team errors. Nice to see Lyle, Sonny and Tshaka get some game time too.

Surprised everyone's more interested in access to a club shop when we still got NO SOUTH STAND! The concrete base has clearly gone in ready for the structure. Assume it will go up quite quickly but probably need to ensure concrete base is dried out and ready.

I think the 15 was Prince Henry who spent time at Bristol City but still young and now released. Sean O'brien, who has just been released by Forest Green was one of the other trialist. Both mentioned by LB in his after match interview so assume will still be involved at Fareham on Tuesday.
Oscar Rutherford was excellent both defensively and braking forward. He must have got in 4 or 5 crosses, just a pity he didn't play same half as Paul M.
Think Callum 100% right that the EDS kids will be out on loan once the pre season is done, it really is a huge gap nowadays up to the National League for them.
