Good idea but it’s a shambles it’s not in the evening. The only people can make it are those who aren’t at work or are retired and not being funny the retired based on previous meetings ask the most boring/irrelevant questions

This probably explains the timing:- Wednesday 5th July 2023/24 National League fixtures will be released at 1pm on Wednesday 5th July. Supporters will find out our full 46-match fixture list across our website and social media channels. Opening day fixtures will take place on Saturday 5th August, with the regular season ending on Saturday 20th April.

Good idea but it’s a shambles it’s not in the evening. The only people can make it are those who aren’t at work or are retired and not being funny the retired based on previous meetings ask the most boring/irrelevant questions I agree it's a strange time to have it, even if the fixtures are announced during the meeting and we get 'live reaction' to them (the sort of thing they do on Sky). An evening meeting would get far more people in, of all types. You're right, you're not being funny about the retired (I'm not one of them, by the way)- I think it's important the fans do not divide into 'young' and 'old' factions and do come together and act as one. However, what is important to one group of fans may not be important to another group of fans, and we need to accommodate that. I think the comments on the recent price rises bore this out - varying priorities.

Strange time, surely it doesn't need to coincide with the fixtures being released that day. If it was an evening event, then it gives the fans (and Bradders etc) the chance to absorb the fixtures & dates and think about the questions they might ask about them. I also find it a ridiculous decision to charge fans £5 to attend this. We are not a premier league club who could get over subscribed with demand to attend, so it should be free and ensure the club get as many attending as they can.

I agree Paul it should be an evening event and fans shouldn’t be expected to pay even if it’s for charity. I know a few fans who won’t be going because of paying. It seems that the club don’t consider the ordinary working supporter. Although I am retired I don’t consider myself boring as every question and opinion counts.

For the paying a £5 that’s nothing that just the price of a pint and a bit but yeah at the last 2 fans forums some questions especially early on have been dominated by the elderly who have droned on, taking ages to make their point about not much and holding the evening up.

Blimey sounds like we may be heading for a cull of the old codgers. 👴

I think that it’s wrong to paint us all with the same brush. Although I’ll be celebrating my 78th birthday in September (no presents required, thank you!), and I can’t race down the wing as I once used to, I think that my faculties are still in tact. (At the moment!] I agree that the gentlemen, at the last Fans’ Forum was long winded and slightly confused, but at least I know who Tom Coffey is! I’m going to wear my status of “Old Codger” with pride.

I think its fair enough that EFC are trying something a bit different with this.
For the free funday/Swindon game we have had about 3000 tickets booked (and its not for 3 weeks) so I can see that limiting numbers - which charging effectively does - makes some sense. Also might make for a more productive Q&A session. Many people work from home/have flexible hours so would guess that less people will be unable to attend due to work than some may think.

I have been going to fans forum for 20 years and actually think that the most recent of them was one of the better ones and I think what you think is relevant can be a subjective matter. I personally think that is relevant that this club has many people who begin their association with the club as teenagers or in their early 20's and are still involved with the club in their 70's and 80's. In fact our founder Deriik Brooks formed the club as a 22 year old and gave the club selfless service for the remaining 71 and a half years of his life. Also a few years ago there was the Last Of The Summer Wine Club consisting solely of retired people who devoted a large amount of their spare time doing odd jobs around the club and a couple of members of this group received National League Volunteer of the month awards.
I also think that some people may have different ideas of what is classed as old. I recently reduced my hours at work so I only work 4 days, but am unable to attend as I still work on a Wednesday. I do think the timing is slighttly odd, but I think the event is being labelled as a fixture list Q&A.

Does this mean that the 'younger' people have been denied a chance to have their say? In that case it's down to the person running the forum to be more in control. What subjects, in your opinion, were not covered that could have been if the 'elderly' hadn't dominated proceedings?
