Paul McCallum has been let go by D&R if he doesn't stay permanently with chesterfield do you reckon we would have a go at brining him back?
I think it is worth a shot, he had been dags top scorer in his two seasons there and I feel with our current squad he would thrive and be able to reach similar goal levels he did last time he was with us.

Surprised Strevs has let him go. He did well with us, but most of his goals were assisted by the excellent delivery of Mark Yeates.

Was apparently the highest wage-earner at D&R, and had lost form after a good start. Had a few injuries too. So seemed logical to release him.
Interesting that he's been on loan at Chesterfield recently, so other clubs know what he can do.
Daggers fans forum reckon Effiong is an upgrade on McCallum, which surprised me a bit.
Was good for us, with a good strike rate, although depended a lot on service, as Sattsy says. I did wonder about his attitude at times, particularly when things weren't going well.

I don't know, we've never really replaced him but he's not really settled anywhere since...I'm not convinced bringing players back really works...I don't think Partington, Hare or Martin in recent years have been a huge success.
Would rather we look for someone young and hungry...look at the success Notts had with bringing Langstaff up from NLN.

That may be true, however both Camp and Maghoma were decent this year, both unlucky with injuries mind. I get looking for the next Langstaff however, not many players will be able to break the goal scoring record in their first year in the league. McCallum is a certified scorer at this level and I would welcome him back with open arms. Two players I would like to look a bringing in is Poleon from Ebbsfleet who scored 30 odd in the south last year whos currently OOC and Jarvis from Torquay who scored 15 in our league last season

Poleon's 29, has played at a decent level (including Oldham) although Ebbsfleet is really the only club he's scored goals at, and he said a month ago that he wanted to stay.
Jarvis actually started at Basingstoke (not sure if Jason knows him?) and again hasn't really hit the back of the net regularly until Torquay. Might be a better bet at 25. His 15 goals is the same as Michael Cheek, which is pretty good.

Proven goalscorer who know this league inside & out. As long as LB plays to his strengths and doesn't use him as a CB or keep him on the bench until we are 2-0 down with 2 minutes left, he can be a huge asset.

Also have mixed feelings about this, he's a proven goalscorer for sure, but needs good delivery's on top his head, so we need to also sign players who can do that for him. The negatives are: He's not getting any younger. He doesn't stay anywhere for long before finding himself benched. Probably will be our highest earner. It rarely works to go back to a club you have previously player for (the only player i can remember who has come back to us and performed better than before is Greener).
But all that said, he can be a real asset if we get someone who can deliver the kind of service into him that he can thrive on.

No doubt LB will utilise him everywhere except his rightful place on the field.

I still think we will bring in another striker.

At least with these two signings we're trying to strengthen in the positions we were lacking in last season.....

Positives - McCallum is a minimum 10 goal a season player, with decent service 15+ , and should enhance Hill, Carter and players of their type. Also it sends out a signal that we mean business which should excite other players to join, now SD has basically backed LB he will have to stick with him regardless, we didn't reach the play offs last season so atleast we can look forward to some very decent signings asap.
Downsides - not overly adaptable as a player, will demand he's the star, but his goals should hopefully demand that
