Lost 3-1. McDonnell saved a pen at 1-1 as well.

Was at the game, typical eastleigh performance this season. We perform well as a unit and individually performing to our best imo however no real outlet hence relying on pen, freekick, moment of genius as per previous weeks. Still we made County scared, they won't go up,they are very poor themselves, see them next season. Counted 36 away fans

They won't go up?? Notts County have lost just two games this season, one to a last minute winner. Title decider probably on Easter Monday away at Wrexham, if the gap closes, County have an easier finish to the season than Wrexham. It's all about dealing with the pressure now, probably why County looked poor last night but they still won, hopefully both teams get promoted they deserve it.

Eastleigh started the game faster, were quicker to the ball and worked their socks off all first half, Notts were simply not allowed to play their usual game and went in looking frustrated.
We were awarded soft penalty, superbly taken by Danny Whitehall but other than that, there were not too many chances either side to shout about. On the balance of things, I would say that Eastleigh edged the half and went in with a deserved lead.
One felt that if Eastleigh could keep up the momentum in the second half, we were in with a shout of a shock result but it was not to be.
The Notts side that came out and looked a totally different team. Understandably the Spitfires were on weary legs after the massive first half effort and they were never going to be able to continue at that pace.
Notts showed their class from the first whistle after halftime and at 55 minutes, it was clear that we were in for a torrid time. I said to my son that we would be lucky to lose by one and sure enough the first goal followed shortly after and then came another soft penalty, this time against us, I've seen them given and not so Oscar was a tad unlucky.
The save by McDonnell was something to behold, diving to his left he was only able to push out the powerful shot, the rebound found the ball again at the feet of the pen taker who then shot towards the right corner, Joe was up in a flash and palmed the ball around the post for a corner, absolutely a sight to behold. McDonnel has played a huge part in all the clean sheets we have had lately and therefore in our uplift in form and confidence and he is in my opinion the best keeper in this league.
But there was no stopping Notts who with a bit of luck could have doubled their eventual score. They were a pleasure to watch in the second half, their next two goals were well worked and they, along with Wrexham are the two best sides I have seen in the National league bar none. These two are a class apart and must both surely go up.
It was no disgrace to lose to this side, in fact the Spitfires can take a lot away from this game, we made them sweat and they really had to work for their victory, with our new found confidence, we can beat any other side in this league.
All we need to do is make the play-offs, no matter if it is in 5th or 7th spot, it makes little difference. Once in the play-offs, we can beat anyone from 3rd down, we know we can, and then anything can happen, wow, can we actually dream!
One last thought, try as he might to keep up the red card momentum, Lee Bradbury only managed a disappointing yellow, but then Flints stepped up to the mark with a well deserved straight red. It looks like we are wising up, if we are going to collect cards, lets rather get them on the bench, it beats playing with ten men :-)

I just got to listen to the 2nd half after a text from Paul reminded me he was there doing the Radio Solent co-commentary with Ian Wilding. Sounded like Eastleigh were a credit given the number of players injured or suspended. Let's hope we get back to a full fit squad PDQ. Great posts from everyone who was there btw.
