Locks Heath FC, no less, did have an ex Norwich City player on their books a long time ago. Also various lower league players have graced our local rec. I can't remember the details but I know someone who will remember and will post again when I have any more info.
Local Saints alumni Nick Holmes and Pat Earles both went on to play for non league sides though not on the same philanthropic terms as Phil Bardsley to be fair. Also to be fair though they were not rewarded in their era on anything close to the current top division pay scales so were still happy to get an income from football.
And being fair again, both those great guys spent a lot of time and energy giving the benefit of their experience to boys' football in their later years.
But you've got me on the hook now Paul. I'll be looking out for other examples.

I may be wrong but , i thinks the point Paul was trying to make is that the player is not taking money for turning out he is giving it back to the local community .

He's a bit of a local hero with the guys i drink with and who played with him for either LHFC and/or the Salterns Club.

There are many ex top flight players who ended up in Non league after a handful of Prem games, but they weren't good enough to play at the higher levels and dropped into NL at still a relatively young age. Very few have played at the top level with any real length of time, but even those that did, i doubt they gave their wages to the local community. We are now in an era where if you play in the PL for 5+ years, you will be a multi-millionaire, so its good to see someone like Phil Bardsley giving something back, whilst prolonging his football career.

Ah yes. How could I have forgotten Colin Sullivan's name. I can still recall seeing him play. There are cameos I can still play back in my mind from seeing some players at games many years ago, including Pele, Eusebio and Darren Anderton. Colin Sullivan is also one of those etched in the memory.
