Strange game, first 15 minutes were poor, we then got a goal and should have scored another one. Instead we let a team who hadn't won for 12 game back into it and fell asleep at a corner to let them take the lead. They nearly scored after the break too, but the turning point came with the penalty and red card for ex-Spitfire Hoyte. Then came Mr.B's party trick - 20 seconds after coming on as subs, Hill ran down the wing and squared for Harper to put us ahead. After that there was only one winner as our pace continually embarrassed their defence, we scored two and hit the bar twice as Harper, Hill and latterly Hesketh ran riot. Now only goal difference denies us a place in the playoffs - get that away form sorted out, please! Notts County on Saturday is a now game to look forward to after the despair of last Saturday. We weren't perfect tonight by any means but the second half was pretty entertaining. First time I've seen us score five in a league match, I think.

Great write up. But don't forget but for a World class save from Joe we could have gone in 3-1 down at the break. Maidstone are a poor side who we made look good for 20 mins. Hopefully such a thumping win will give the team - particularly the strikers - some confidence.

We got lucky on the pen and red card, but a good win

We were 2-1 down until the red card and they actually played with a more attacking style as the away team, every time they went forward they overloaded us and went 3 strikers onto our 2 CBs and then 1 of either the LB or RB depending what flank the play was on, I'd love for that at home let alone away from home , but that is what a Hakan Heyrettin does , he was the manager when Thurrock trounced us 8-2. We played so deep in the first half.
Second half we showed glimpses of what we should be producing at home , there's no way a team with options of Hill Carter Hesketh Harper Rutherford JJ should be struggling for goals regardless of what's happening with the 2 upfront, just bypass them if needs be.
Very settled back four + the GK, gives a good footing for Atangana and Cisse to maybe go a bit more positive in the future

As I said after the Torquay game, I think a midfield pairing of Atangana and Cisse is a defensive one. One or the other is good as it lets the creative midfielders play. I was surprised to see both start last night.
It was notable that we only ripped Maidstone apart after the substitutions of Hill, Harper, and later on Hesketh. Before that we'd let them back into the game and before the penalty/red card we were struggling.
Was surprised that JJ was on the bench - was he injured? He's been one of our best players
So Mr. B may talk about 'thinking it was an easy game' and 'complacency' but one might question his team selection too.
The two goals we conceded in quick succession was at the time that Martin had been off a couple of times for injury, and he may have been unable to head the ball. No excuse, but it did happen at that time.

Just seen the highlights via MU youtube, very soft penalty and definitely not a red ffs. Will be giving 2 a game with that standard of refereeing

Yes, it was a soft penalty. Abrahams did well to get himself between Hoyte and the ball (when you do that you've always got a chance), then fell down in the tangle.
Red card adds insult to injury, at that angle not sure there was a goalscoring opportunity, but maybe the law doesn't worry about that nowadays?
Ref was the usual National League standard, so it wasn't the only contentious decision.
