Sounds pretty tinpot. How much does it cost to put the lights on? Couple of hundred pounds?
How many fans/bar money would we lose by messing around with the kick off?

If England win their World Cup group I'd imagine Eastleigh v Boreham Wood on 3rd Dec would definitely be 12.30kick off.

I think as things stand it is designed for Isthmian League clubs who are either two or three divisions below us and whose costs with lighting etc form a greater percentage of the income that they take at games from gate money, food etc.
It has always been the case that teams without floodlights in the lower leagues have to kick off their matches earlier in the winter months to avoid games finishing in the dark.

What do they save then, a few hundred quid? What about the loss of moving kick off time and less fans, what about lost bar money. They haven’t thought this through

They are doing it exactly for that reason, does moving kick off really save money / annoy fans enough not to turn up/ make them save or lose money on that game. Id imagine come November most will have trialled it atleast once in League 1 and 2

At this time of the year, a 1400 KO would be perfectly adequate. An extra hour for the bar, more chance of away fans being able to get there. After the clocks go back however....
As an aside, I find 1300 KOs pretty frustrating, as the chances of travelling to see another game starting at 1500 afterwards, and arriving in time for kick-off are pretty limited.
I notice our club is not shy about switching floodlights on very early, or watering the pitch when it's rained in the morning.

I think it is probably tried as an experiment and seeing how it works out. Taking everything into account I am not sure on the impact of the attendance and bar sales. What I will say is that if an experiment is used it is better t do so when the clubs are not too far apart geographically as otherwise away fans might have to get up at the crack of dawn to see the game.
For clubs without floodlights earlier kick offs are necessary in winter months and for cu ties with extra time the start is usually before 2pm.

A lot of local cup ties (e.g. Hampshire Senior Trophy) are starting at 1400 next week, however, they will revert to 1330/1345 after the end of October. Most of them go straight to penalties now, though.
