You don't have to be a rocket scientist to work it out. Ben did a great job over his time here in my opinion. A new DOF is installed and the wheels start to come off. It was only a matter of time before he got the push...he did well to last the time he did this season with the Hill/Donald axis rearing its head again.
Be careful what you wish for,........

To be fair to the club, I hear that before the return of Richard Hill, agents were running rings around the staff. I can understand the frustration that Ben Strevens must have felt by the club not acquiring the players that he may have wanted, but surely it is more important to maintain budgets. If the club were to constantly give in to agents demands, there will not be a club left for us to support in the future. I fear for clubs like Chesterfield, who have borrowed a million pounds, in the hope of gaining promotion. I welcomed the return of Richard Hill, if his position is to stand our corner, in negotiating new contracts. Hopefully Eastleigh won’t be regarded as soft touches in the future. I certainly am grateful that Kenny and Tom have managed the club in the manner they have. We’ve got a cracking club, and as our friend from Grimsby says, how do we have the cheapest season tickets in the land..

We are nowhere near the top in either for our division. An issue with having someone in place to deal with player transfers and agents is that they choose who we sign rather than the management, and if a player can come with a benefit for the man deciding who we sign , then we'll definitely be signing him, that's not a slant at us or our club it's just real life. That can put the manager and DOF at odds with each other, the manager then says once sacked 'they were never my players' and gets a pay off.

With regards to Chesterfield FC loan , it was 1 million paid back over 25 years at 0% interest I think. As if in 25 years anyone is going to remember to ask for that back. If it helps them gain promotion to League 2 they will already be in profit such are the gains by going up.

Nothing for actual promotion from the National League but it is always quoted over 1 million overall for promotion including new access to EFL Trophy , League Cup and of course the parachute payments if you come down. Always wince when I hear about crowds going up, maybe slightly, but Wrexham are already selling out and same for Stockport, I'd rather be in the same division as Grimsby Notts County Chesterfield than Crawley Salford for away fan money etc.

At the fans forum I thought that Richard Hill explained the situation regarding player movement well.
However the situation between him and Strevens is an intriguing one. Strevens was signed as a player by Hill and played an important part in getting the team promoted and into the playoffs the following season, When Hill became manager of Whitehawk he also signed Strevens as a player. When in 2017 Hill returned to Eastleigh as Director of Football it was his remit to form a new management team the club forward. Hill was initially in the dugout working alongside Andy Hessenthaler and assisted by Ben Strevens, but when Hill and Hessenthaler left the club Strevens assumed the role of manager.
Whereas in 2017 Hill's appointment of Director of Football was made very clear, this time around I did not see it announced publicly anywhere (I someone can find anywhere where this was publicly announced I would be interested to hear from them) and I do not know who was behind the appointment.
I would say that directors are often appointed as part of a new management team or to help the manager to focus principally on on the field activities. If a manager and a Director of football have different views on player recruitment it can make the working relationship very difficult.
