Good luck to Winchester City in their Southern League Div 1 South playoff at home to Bristol Manor Farm this afternoon.
They've had a great season, despite not being one of the richer clubs in the division, and did extremely well to make the playoffs ahead of AFC Totton, for example. I saw them stuff AFC Lymington recently to make the playoffs, and they played some really good football.
Manager Craig Davis has done a great job there, just saying.... (apart from the bad language consistently coming from the bench ;-))

We need more local teams to be step 3 around us to help our youngsters. Step 4 and 5 isn't the place to be for them.

Well, City are now at Step 3 after winning the playoff-final 4-1, so will be joining Gosport in the Southern League Premier. Well done to them!

Think I am right in saying this is the first time in their history they have reached the southern league premier. www.fchd.info/WINCHESC.HTMQuite a day for them and an attendance of over 1,000.

Over the weekend Gateshead and Maidstone gained promotion to the National League, along with Scunthorpe and Oldham joining us, it would be nice if Brackley come up instead of a York City to keep the National League less northern next season..
In other play off news North Leigh got promoted without getting into the play off places... Jefferson Louis scored 2 in injury time to win promotion for them, a 43 year old player with a lot of passion , desire, mobility to still keep playing, can we show his highlights reel to our lads before the next game?...

Interesting to note that the crowd for the Halifax match was over 3000 despite Eastleigh having only pride to play for and the Southern League playoff final attracted a four figure gate, yet when we played Leyton in the playoff final to get in the Conference South 17 years ago the crowd was under 1000 so it shows how crowds at the Silverlake stadium have improved.
Winchester have EDS goalkeeper Charlie Philpott and former Eastleigh academy award winning players Ollie Griggs and Joe Hayward in their squad.
