Sounds like a good effort from our HSC squad, but their squad was also mainly a development one.
Comment from Farnborough forum:
'Congratulations to our rotated squad beating Eastleigh’s rotated squad… Silverware is silverware at the end of the day and the circumstances behind it will long be forgotten whilst the title remains in the club’s palmares!
A bigger congratulation must go to Hampshire FA who turned their own showpiece final into a mockery by staging it at this point in the season rather than at the end, holding it midweek, at the ground of one of the 2 teams (rather than securing a neutral venue when the eventuality unfolded) leading their big day to be contested by two sets of reserves… Not that they will care as they bask in their own self importance whilst congratulating each other on a job well done whilst wearing their chains of office and drinking heartily on expenses all evening'.

Completely agree with the Farnborough fans comment. We are in a position now where we can play a 'non first team' team and get to the final (2 seasons running via this method) that isn't us disrespecting the cup like we used to maybe 8-12 years ago. We have come along way from losing with kids 10-0 at Romsey. Would he have liked to go toe to toe with our first team, maybe the outcome would have been the same anyway... As for the venue, I'd imagine we'd be getting it now on a regular basis with the quality of pitch etc. Inc the Women's game by the looks of it.

I can understand us not playing a complete first team (although it was obviously a competition we'd have liked to have won - only chance of silverware this season), but I was more alarmed at a Southern League club doing the same, although I totally understand that at a vital time of the season for them they also can't risk a first team.
As such, £10 for a match between two largely reserve/youth teams was not attractive enough for me to attend. May be a reason why IMO the club publicised it poorly, as it was more of a Hampshire FA event, not an Eastleigh FC one. The concession prices also reflected this.
Yes, our venue is attracting more external business (U23s, finals, Women's games, etc.) which can only be good.

Do agree that not having the final at a neutral venue doesn’t show the competition in the best light.
IMO it should be a given that the final is at neutral venue.
Still a worthwhile competition for us to enter, it’s given us a few different games for youngsters to shine & they have done. Had we had extra time I think we might well have won, we certainly finished the stronger side.
Also unfortunate that we didn’t get ends or first kick for the penalties.
Ah well, another Hants cup final next season?!

Although our youngsters showed commendable fight especially when pulling back to 2-2. It appeared that Farnborough had four players started their last league match and three who were on the substitutes bench and one of their players who did not feature in their last match was their man of the match. I thought that over the 90 minutes Farnborough were the better team and we did well to restrict them to two goals.
mY gut reaction was that when it came to spot kicks Farnborough might have more experienced penalty takers in their ranks and so it proved, but I am sure our young players will learn from this experience and we have done marvellously well to beat Havant and Waterlooville in this competition and we certainly have a good bunch of EDS players and hope we can keep the majority of them.
I do not think the allocation of ends or the order of the kicks influenced the result of the penalty shoot out. The end where the kicks was taken was virtually empty and Farnborough had great vocal support at the game. Funnily enough when Eastleigh played MK Dons in the F A Cup which was their most recent shootout in a national competition I commented on the fact that it was the club's second penalty shoot out in a week and both were won by the team kicking second. None of these games would have had spectators of course.
The Farnborough fans celebrated their victory which clegarly meant a lot to them and why should they not. Their fans have had some difficult times in recent years.
