Encouraging performance against good opponents, now ten matches unbeaten, in a physical match, poorly refereed.
Deserved MOM for young debutant Camp, who had an early assist, and then looked as good in the centre of defence in the second half as he had at right back in the first.
Smart goal by Pritchard, who filled Whelan's boots fairly well, I thought. Their goal hardly saw Joe McD move, it was so powerful.
Looked like we should have had a penalty when Whitehall was pushed down in the box.
Great turnout by the visiting fans, and we seem to have got our noisy fans back, too.

Referee last night, James Durkin, is the son of former Premier League ref Paul Durkin from Portland. Many will remember him, short ginger hair, very good ref, not many of those about these days.

Ref got quite a few things wrong, missed the sandwich on Whitehall which should have been a pen. Also didn’t he book a Southend player for an elbow on Boyce that lead to him going off?
Played well overall, decent point in the circumstances. We are far to good to go down, but clearly there is some work needed ahead of next season

Looks like Bristow is continuing the progressive Man City 'false 9' no striker football Strevs had played for so long. Good to see.

Every time I think I have seen the worst possible refereeing performance another one comes along who is even worse. Durkin was arrogant with it as well and his assistants didn't seem able to make any decisions in favour of Eastleigh even when the regular Southend rough house tactics were going on under their noses. The club's biggest concern at the moment is probably how many players will be fit for the next match. I'd also be a bit concerned about Andy Cook's hamstrings with the amount of running onto the pitch he had to do.
Re the football, except for the way we conceded that goal, I thought the team was generally excellent with some standout performances. Brennan Camp deserved his MoM award but really it could have gone to a number of players including Jake Hesketh who is one whose fitness might need checking on before Boreham Wood after the unpunished kicking he got throughout the match. I'd also agree that Harry Pritchard seemed to revel in the extra responsibility he took on in the absence of Whelan.
Let's hope we might have a chance of a result against Boreham Wood. Their excellent pitch normally works in their favour in this league but with our own wonderful new surface we should be equally used to the playing conditions. Also might they have half a mind to be thinking about the next round of the Cup? That shouldn't pre-occupy them really but no harm in hoping. Especially if we can get some much needed shooting practice in between now and Saturday.

shame we couldn't manage the win that we could easily have got on another day, but no-one can think this team has any chance of going down, can they??
really good to get another 3000+ crowd. we must be doing well in the attendance league, if not the results league!

Whenever people are critical of referees in individual matches I refer to their previous record in our matches and Tuesday's referee was in charge of last season's home match against Sutton where none of the posters on here mentioned him.
I personally think that the worst referees are poor for both sides as they tend to lose control of the game and get decisions such as awarding corners that should be goal kicks and vice versa and award throw ins to the wrong team.
One referee sticks in my mind regarding his referee performance on more than one occasion and now he is an Assistant Referee in the Premiership.

School crossing wardens have more use than Premier League assistant referees, they have the legalised corruption of VAR to fall back on.
Just searched the Sutton thread from last season, think the goal was offside. TenAcres mentioned at the time our last 6 wins were 1-0 as of 25 April 2021. Not alots changed then....our defensive set up has just become worse.
