Seems like a decent win with quite a few EDS players and I presume none of the XI that are planned to start on Saturday against Aldershot.
Anyone know what the crowd was?
I see a couple of ex spitfires returning in Rendell & Bell-Baggie

Blimey. Years and years of continuity, consistency and progression within the Academy coaching staff through the age groups and improvements in facilities and atmosphere around the stadium are really seeing results now. This is why you don't just sack people for a couple of results, long term planning and stability are more important. You won't get many other first team coaching teams that are as invested and hands on to help as Strevs, Bristow and Flits (plus all the others too). The pitch looked absolutely incredible too judging by the pics.
Hope these lads get another good Hants Cup tie to get their teeth into and get given the Trophy game too.

You missed a very enjoyable evening. Few pre match beers with a few old school H&W fans. The game itself went really quick I thought. The 2 young lads in the center of our defence were outstanding. I didn't think Flits had a save to make. I did miss the first 15 mins of the second half. Yapping in the bar. Havant looked neat and tidy, nice triangles etc. But they got to the last third and run out of ideas. Roll on the next round. As for the pitch, unreal after all that rain yesterday afternoon

I did not see the game, but it seems though the team had a good balance of experience and youth. It seems that of the H&W team that started their game on Saturday four started and five were on the bench, while their five substitutes on Saturday all started.
I personally think that having watched a lot of games in the competition over the years a good balance between youth and experience often works well. I can recall games in which we as a Conference South team fielded a young team bolstered by a few senior pros were able to beat a good Wessex League team. However it is good that now as a National League club we are able to completely rest the majority of our first choice players and still beat a good team from the Conference South who choose virtually all first team squad members for the match.

The two young centre half’s for me the stand out performances. Always talking and very organised for such a big game for them personally it was very encouraging.

Presumably the centre backs referred to are Tom Bragg and Ben Willson. It is interesting to note that one has been playing for a club in the Wessex Premier League and the other for a club bottom of the Southern League Premier Division, which are both leagues at a lower level than where Eastleigh and Havant and Waterlooville play.
It is good though that the centre backs seemed to play well together. Often in these sort of matches young players reap the benefits of having an experienced player playing alongside them.
