I know I’ve got too much time on my hands, but I was looking at the Southend forum and saw an interesting post about tomorrow’s referee:- “It is to be Rob Whitton from Braintree who started at this level in 2007. I understand that at one time he was a regular paying customer at Roots Hall.” Comically, a reply was:- “Thanks Mick. So our situation is so desperate we have resorted to appointing Blues fans as referees (the sad thing is, I very much doubt it will help).” At least we’ll have a referee conspiracy excuse, if things go wrong.

sounds a bit dodgy. I had a quite look online and saw a thread from 2012 which mentioned him doing the line for Southend and being a fan as well.
Hopefully there will be no contentious decisions against us tomorrow otherwise it will be tricky not to think of this.

Astounding if true!
Have been advised best places to park are Burr Hill Chase, Prittlewell Chase and Shakespeare Drive

Another, quite complimentary, post from the Southend forum.
“Eastleigh as state were busy in the transfer market moving out 10 and bringing in 9. They have close to the standard 4 over 30s, with 36 year old Ross Flitney as reserve keeper , Danny Hollands still going strong in midfield at 36 and Tyrone Barnett offers sub appearances. Their catchment area helps them bring in quite a few from Bristol Rovers, Bristol City and Southampton, also good at plucking young talent from National South and lower over the years
Notice anything about their 9 incoming???
Harper (aged 20 ) left back fiom NL South Maghoma ( aged 23 ) Central Defender Gills loan Hesketh ( aged 25 ) midfielder from Southampton free Pritchard ( aged 28 ) midfielder Bradford City free, LEADING SCORER Hare ( aged 26 ) defender Bristol Rovers free Kelly ( aged 23 ) defender Bristol Rovers free Whelen ( aged 25 ) midfielder Chesterfield free Whitehead ( aged 25 ) 6.3 striker Hibs and Kilmarnock Low ( aged 19 ) defender loan Bristol City Wales Under 21 International
Good news is we can win this, They havent won away from home AND GO A BIT DEFENSIVE, although Cracking in the goals at home.
Watch out for 22 year old Will House upfront snatched from READING last year and the electric pace of young SMART if he gets on”

Sounded like an awful second half with Strevs unable to change the way we played, but more worrying is the lack of goals. Afraid Eastleigh 0 is going to become our default away score. Were Low's chances as easy as Ian Wilding made them sound in the first half? Which defender gave Ferguson too much space for them to score?

Odd game last night. Southend were very poor through out, forget the badge they wear, that is a poor side. You could say we dominated the first half, certainly we were comfortable, if we had a striker or two we'd have been cruising.
Second half just went flat, tried the long ball, it didn't work so tried it again, then we tried it with Smart and Hesketh on the pitch and it also didn't work. We won 2/3 headers and second balls in the first half but we that drops to 0-1/3 then everything else becomes pointless. Barnett won a couple of headers, but who for? McDonnells kicking was impressive, but who too?
Whelan is a cracking player, Hill was playing well, not sure why he was taken off. Southend made subs and it benifitted them whereas our didn't.
