A really tough one coming up on Saturday. Grimsby are on a roll, beating Wrexham convincingly on Tuesday. They have only dropped points away to Stockport (who were strongly fancied to win the League). Looking at their forum, they are expecting a crowd in excess of 6,000. if we manage to get anything from this game, the future should look rosy.

Talking about their forum, I felt really proud to see the following post:-
Went down to Eastleigh a couple of times when we were last here and found them to be one of the nicest clubs I’d ever been. Even before the PO semi, their ballboys, people on the gate and anyone you spoke to were wishing us good luck. Bit unnerving considering what we were used to.
I hope that many other away supporters come away with that impression.

K do think though that we are a bit unpredictable. Not many people expected us to beat Notts County both home and away last season and in fact we beat all of last season's top five at home, but failed to beat four of the six bottom clubs who finished the season either home or away.
Perhaps after Grimsby beat us four times in our first season at this level we are due a good result against them.

Grimsby missed a late penalty as well.

Another loss , again late substitutions when losing. Get a grip of yourself MANAGER ! Your tactics don’t work 90 percent of the time.

Long season ahead I think. Defensively we are not good enough. As for the manager, he is safe as the board have no gumption or money to sack him.

Apart from the Kings Lynn game I'd have thought results so far have gone broadly with expectations. The teams we've lost to so far will all be top 10 at least by the end of the season.
As for performances.... I'd say we're yet to hit our stride although the 25 minutes before half time against Dover were as good as I've seen us.
4 points from our next two home games would be what I'd hope for, although it won't be easy given that the opposition have both started well.

In relation to the last post two of the three teams who finished above us last season and the third are a club who were relegated from the football league last season and are now managed by the person who took them to the football league in 2016. However last season we managed a plus score against the teams that finished above us and had a negative score against the teams that finished 17th to 21st in the table.
As for the substitutions \i think that midway through the second half we bought on an attacking midfielder for a defender and a forward for a defensive midfielder and conceded the second a few minutes later.
Still I know from experience that the way we start the season does not necessarily reflect how we will finish it.

Starting any season poorly is not good you get too far behind and then have to show championship form to get near the playoffs. The facts are there for all to see ( when those rose coloured spectacles are removed) we are struggling to see games out and don’t SHOOT enough . Hopefully today we will see a strong performance for the whole game and shots on target + GOALS . Lose to Woking and it’s goodnight to the title ! Ha ha

Although I will be going today I have not seen very many games this season, so other people are I expect better qualified on how well we have actually played in games. However looking at the match stats against Bromley we had 15 shots on goal, 8 on target and their keeper gave a man of the match performance, while Bromley themselves had 12 shots, 5 on target and scored 3 times. Against Dover we had 9 shots, 7 on target and scored 4 times.
Regarding seeing games out I think Kings Lynn was the only game we had a lead and been unable to hold on to it, or indeed lost a game due to a late goal. 2It is interesting to reflect on the seasons 2013/14 (promoted as champions), 2004/05 (promoted through the playoffs), 2008/09. 2012/13, 2014/15 and 2018/19 (losing playoff semi finalists) which I have a much clearer idea of. In 2004/05 we had 7 points after 7 games, in 2018/19 we had 9 points after 9 games. Whatever happens today we will have at least an average of a point per game after 9 matches. Teams need to improve their form after a poor start, but during the course of a season league tables can change very quickly.
