Thought we did OK, midfield definitely better than pre-season. but our forward deficiency was shown up again today.
First goal was a superb pass by a League 2 striker, and second goal was a header from a corner, a poor one to concede, but after Barnett had gone off injured. Joe made some great saves otherwise it would have been more. Looked like a clear penalty for a trip on House near the end but the visitors were clear winners.
If they keep playing like that they will be top 3. It wasn't just the quality of some of their players, it was the workrate they showed. We don't often get outworked. But some optimistic signs for the future, I'm expecting mid-table with the possibility of something a bit better if we can get someone who can score the goals.

Yes I think we did OK and were on top for much of the first half. Their first goal seemed totally against the run of play. Problem was often the final ball. We didn't really create many clear cut chances despite having a lot of the ball in their half. I guess in part it was probably a job well done by Wrexham, and they were certainly clinical going forwards.
Wrexham are favourites for the title this season, so hard to draw any conclusions about our chances of a good season. Does appear we are a little light up front though (specially if Tyrone Barnetts injury will keep him out for a few games).

Read there were 711 away fans today - proper club. Gave great support.
Not a record, though - I'm sure Bristol Rovers, for one, brought almost 1000?
Apparently this was announced during the match - not that I could hear the loudspeaker very well in the main stand today. Never mind, it was nice to be back and it was a good atmosphere.

The PA announcer was on a wind up, with the same line he has used before. He announced 700 odd Wrexham fans and then said 'this is a record', a slight pause as they all celebrated, and then he added 'for this season so far'.

Gary did say this, with the attendance announcement. However, it’s a gag, that he uses every first home game, where he says, “This is the record away support ( of the season!)” I think that you’re right that Bristol Rovers hold the record.

I remember Bristol Rovers well, one of our first few games in the conference back in 2014.
Bolton in the FA Cup was around 1000 as well. AFC Wimbledon in the conference south days was about 1000 too IIRC.

Yeah was a wind up, very funny though, I fell for it! All in all Wrexham fully deserved the victory, great day out though, pitch looked really good, obviously first game but I think is going to hold up all season, all in all good to be back

Thanks for that - some of the Wrexham fans obviously picked up on it too, judging by their forum.
As I said, if I could have heard the announcement properly, then I would would probably have clocked the joke as well. Hope the tannoy is working properly next Saturday.

The Tannoy hasn't worked properly in parts of the Main Stand for the last 2 seasons - won't hold my breath

What was the comment re maghoma’s injury about? Since when was speculating in game about a player who has just got an injury part of the tannoy announcers job?

I was not at the game, but when I attend my first game of the season I am not going to form an immediate impression on how the team will fare over the season. Seven of the fourteen players who featured yesterday were not at the club last season and even some of the club's better players do not make an immediate impression.
When I spoke to Ben Strevens in the Winchester friendly he did agree with me about the need to score more goals from midfield and he hoped that we needed to score more goals from midfield as we managed only nine last season, and he said that he signed Pritchard and Whelan with this in mind. I think that as an attacking midfielder with this club in a season where we scored more than 25 goals a season from the centre of the park he recognises this, even if this has to be carefully weighed up against improvements in other areas of the park.
With regards to the record away following our home match against Bristol Rovers was in midweek and the overall attendance was 2621. while the attendance for the home playoff semi final against Grimsby that season was 3251.

A disappointing result from our first game but not really a surprise result. The National League fixture schedulers had selected Eastleigh to have to play their first league match of the season against one of the best teams in the league with one competitive match already under their belt. For Eastleigh, a team with so many new players playing together competitively for the first time ever, this was always going to be extremely difficult. When you add a referee whose only consistency was to give Wrexham the benefit of the doubt with almost every decision he made, only one result was going to be possible. Hopefully the experience will be a character forming one for this new team and they will wash away any negative feelings about that opening game with a good performance at Bromley today. A win could be transforming. Today's key man could be C. Miley if his assertive playing style can be harnessed to shut down any undue creativity from Bromley.
