Where have all the strikers gone? Yet, another midfielder... Eastleigh need two better strikers. We needed cm cover desperately with Hesketh definitely more of a number 10. I agree we need a striker but I think house and barnett are pretty classy!

Where have all the strikers gone? Yet, another midfielder... Eastleigh need two better strikers. I tend to think Strevs prefers goals to come from the whole team (come on Joe McDonnell!) rather than just strikers. We may find Ben House plays a more forward role than coming from midfield as last season. The three midfielders we've signed yesterday and today all appear to have goals in them. Trust in Strevs, he knows what he's doing.

House has yet to sign.... Need 3 strikers Yes, of course we do, but if he doesn't, I'm sure Strevs has an option in mind.

I personally think that the need for strikers needs to be evaluated in a different overall context. Last season it would be reasonable to say that Smart, Hollands, Miley, Bell-Baggie, Bearwish, Hill, Blair and Payne were our midfielders. These eight players contributed nine league goals in a total of 170 starts and 62 substitute appearances. In his one National League season Harry Pritchard scored 14 goals in 43 games, even if I do wonder how well he has recovered from back sugery.
Last season Barnett \and House contributed 21 league goals between them in 67 starts and 6 substitute appearances which represented more than half of our goals if you exclude penalty kicks.
Even if House signs again it would be sensible to try and find another striker, but last season we signed Adam Marriott when Barnett and House were both injured, but when both House and Barnett were fit he struggled to get a regular place and has now left the club.

Don't forget Dan smith, I'm not sure about him but he could be showing something in training.

I did not forget Dan Smith and that was one of the reasons I suggested signing not more than two additional strikers one of whom may or not be Ben House, unlike some on here who are suggesting we sign three. If we have five strikers one of them is likely to not even make the bench for the majority of the games.
However Dan Smith's record for last season was one goal for every 621 minutes of action, as opposed to goal every 217 minutes for Barnett and a goal every 338 minutes for House so in my view as things stand I do not think Smith should be chosen ahead of Barnett or House.
However it is not unknown for players to perform significantly better in their second season with the club than the first and as he is relatively young the club may well have re-signed him thinking that he has the potential to perform well at National League level.

Dan Smith, Tyrone Barnett, are not good enough for National League. Which ever level you play at, you need strikers who are going to score 20+ goals a season. The Maths will show this. So, Eastleigh need two, decent strikers. The above can be squad players. Off the bench and trying to prove/fight to be selected in the starting line-up. Simple tactics...

Its weird but if you look at Eastleighs last 15 season they suggest the opposite of this! en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eastleigh_F.C. Go to "League and Cup History" In the 4 seasons where we have finished in the top 5, we have not had a single player netting 20 goals In the 4 seasons where we have had a player scoring 20+, we've finished 15th, 6th, 8th, 7th. Anyway that said, I am sure we will be adding a striker or two to the squad before the season starts.

Actually the post by ten acres confirmed what I knew already. The figures on the club's wikipedia entry disagree slightly with the non-league directory in terms of goalscorers, but what is clear is that Andy Forbes was our leading goalscorer in our first three seasons in the National League South and in the last two of these he scored over 20 and the club failed to make the playoffs The following season we made the play-offs and Forbes scored just five land our leading scorer who was midfielder Tony Taggart scored less than Forbes had managed in each of the previous three seasons.
Actually if you look at the leading goalscorers in each of the six completed National League seasons that we have played in, on three occasions the leading scorer of the champions has scored 15 goals or less, and when Macclesfield won it their leading scorer netted 11 times, which was less than Tyrone Barnett's total last season.
Also in only one of these six seasons have more than five players reached the 20 goal target and last season only one player did. It is also worth noting that of the top three scorers last season, one played for a team that just managed to scrape into the play-offs at our expense on the final day of the season and the other two clubs finished in mid-table positions.
I think in the seasons we have scored well having midfielders such as Jai Reason, Tony Taggart, Anthony Riviere, Darran Colvin, Mickey Farmiloe and others who could score a double figure total of goals from midfield has often been a significant factor in this. As I have already remarked our whole midfield managed just nine goals last season.
I have already documented my views on here regarding our striker situation, and the fact that I think good teams have goalscoring options from several different sources.
I hope that I have not bored people and that my point can be understood even if you do not necessarily agree with it.
