Sadly no postmark but must be late 1920s to go by the clothes.

The afternoon shadows are long and the bobby is on point duty but not much traffic yet; just a few ladies and mums with kids on their way home from shops and school respectively. The Eastleigh "rush hour" is perhaps just about to start. And what about the shady looking spy doing something very suspicious by the post box? The Southern Railway (SR as seen on the station fascia board) existed between 1923 and 1947. Those motor wagons waiting in front of the station could be late 20's or early 1930's vintage as could the spy's trilby and gaberdine.

What was the name of the pub next to the station? It had closed and been demolished by the time I moved here.

Eastleigh before the motor car came to dominate our lives and when that postman delivered a postcard sent at 9.30am saying "will see you at 4.30 this afternoon at the station" in time for you to get to the station. Click on image to get a full page version.
