Excellent choice,JB has plenty of experience and knows the club well. Not a surprise, really.

Day job was managing our academy, part time as Manager of Basingstoke. We didn't see him at Saturday matches as he was with 'stoke. In fact, I think the only time he was with the first team on a Tuesday evening was v Orient. Now with us full time, obs.

I certainly think there have been a few cases of people working for the club's academy who at the same time were playing for other clubs. In once such instance I believe that the player scored the only goal in a game which ended any lingering hopes we had of winning the league that season.

IIRC, Guy Butters who was an assistant to Ian Baird here, when we were a part time club, was involved in the academy at Brighton & HA as his day job. I think that's how we had Steve Cook on loan. It certainly helped his career having gone on to be a centre back fixture in AFC Bournemouth's current side!!

I actually thought that Guy Butters was Assistant Manager to Richard Hill at Eastleigh not Ian Baird who had Matt Gray as his assistant for a long time.
However Guy did spend a few years at Brighton and may well have had some influence on Steve Cook joining the club.

Steve Cook did play for us well before GB was here.
