so we are putting a young side out for this? its a bit strange for our last game, would think we would want to be strong & ready for the first league game

Don't need a PSF against Winchester to make us strong and ready - but do need to make sure our 1st team don't get injured on a dodgy pitch

Interesting to note that all five away friendlies are against teams two or more divisions lower, while the two home friendlies are against two or more divisions higher.
Is this the first pre-0season friendly for the supporters team though?

Young side lost 2-0. Ben strevens the exception

Young side lost 2-0. Ben strevens the exception Joey Jones played too. Not a great performance. Don't think the NZ goalie is the answer to our issues in that position. Thought Ollie Dennett was good in the 2nd half and Liam Callaghan looked ok if a little slight. Very windy which hampered both sides. Thought oli Bailey looked good for Winchester.

Just before the season begins, no-one should be playing on a pitch like that.

At Winchester's level, they have no option but to play on pitches like that, and whilst I wasn't there today, it can't be any worse than Didcot last year, which was appallingly horrible. And last summer was obviously wetter than this. Wise move by Hess to send a young, bar Strevs, side up to Winch.

is it that hard to just water the pitch? or does it costs a lot of money?

I can acknowledge that at Winchesters level you might have to play on a pitch like that, but luckily for us we are not at that level and I would rather not see any of our players exposed to the risk of playing on a surface like, especially just before the season begins.

I think that sometimes pitches get affected by factors outside people's control.
When 10 months ago the home match against Chester was called off when virtually every other non-league game in the country was played the club received a lot of criticism, but I think that things have moved on since then.

Even at the level Winchester play at, that pitch is a disgrace for this time of year, I've seen better in local parks football.

I used to be involved with the running of a club in a County League - Despite playing 2 levels below WCFC our pitch was much better than that shown in the photos above even after a dry summer. WCFC seem to be in a semi-permanent cash crisis if their own forum is to be believed and this may be at the heart of the problem.
